Octo-Cat first appeared in Kitty Confidential and one of the best ways to learn about a person is by asking questions, so let’s get to know Octo-Cat.
What is your name?
It is Octavius Maxwell Ricardo Edmund Frederick Fulton Russo, esquire, PI. . . The Third.
How old are you?
I don’t understand the question. Perhaps it has something to do with how you humans measure age, but I’m on my fifth life.
What is your profession?
First and foremost, I am a connoisseur of life, a cat of refined tastes. I am also a technical mastermind and a premiere Private Investigator.
Do you have a significant other?
Well, I suppose if I would consider anyone in my life significant, it would be my human Angela.
What is her profession?
Oh, she’s a caretaker of my estate. And I suppose also a junior partner in my private investigation business.
Any children?
Absolutely not.
Do you have any sibling(s)?
They keep telling me that the dog is my “sister.” As if I were related to a common dog. . .
Do your parents live near you?
They are off leading fabulous lives of their own. In fact, although you didn’t hear it from me, one of them was recently in a movie. Yes, they played a priest or some such. I think it was called “Pet Seminary.”
Who is your best friend?
Best friend? I suppose it would have to be the human. The raccoon gets under my skin these days and the dog is irritating and just doesn’t understand that not every thought needs a voice.
Cats, dogs or other pets?
I don’t know what this question is implying but when the question has cats in it, that is the answer.
What town do you live in?
Glendale. It’s in a state also named for my lineage. Maine.
Type of dwelling and do you own or rent?
I live in my manor house that I inherited from my first human. Lovely woman, very unfortunately murdered.
What is your favorite spot in your home?
I suppose it would the library my human likes to work in. Very beautiful area, lots of sunbeams to lay in.
Favorite meal and dessert?
I prefer the salmon flavor of Fancy Feast, but I suppose for a nice dessert, a steak flavored one or maybe freshly grilled shrimp or a nice fat piece of ahi tuna.
Favorite hobby?
Is laying in a sunbeam considered a hobby?
Favorite color?
Well, the vibrant yellow of a canary has always had a special place in my heart. Although the color of a blue jay is positively mouth-watering.
Favorite author?
Obviously, my favorite is the one that manages to write me. Molly Fitz is clearly quite the talent to have come up with me.
Favorite vacation spot?
Vacation. Haven’t really considered taking a vacation, but I might have to research that.
Favorite sports team?
Yes, I believe it’s Minnesota that has a Lynx team. As a cat that is part Lynx, on my mother’s side, I can really get behind a team that recognizes greatness.
Movies or Broadway?
Movies. Broadway has been on my bad side ever since they had a play about Cats and didn’t cast a single cat in it.
Are you a morning or a night person?
Well, as a cat, I’m a creature of the night, I suppose. But my morning feeding cannot be delayed in any way shape or form. If it is, it throws off my entire nap schedule.
Amateur or professional and whom do you work with?
Amateur? Please. I’m the best detective the world has ever seen—or at least the great state of Maine. Well, my staff involves my two humans, Angie and Nan. I occasionally allow Angi to include her mate Upchuck, but not often. I also have Pringle, a raccoon, along with his assistant, Maple. She’s a squirrel.
In a few sentences, what is a typical day in your life like?
Well, I normally have to wake Angela up to make sure I’m fed in time, then I rest. Once I find the sunbeam, I then spend the day following it across the house to maintain decent warmth. Angie may or may not have some drama that requires my wisdom for her to resolve. Humans. Always in need of feline assistance.
Retriever Ransom is the tenth book in the “Pet Whisperer P.I.” cozy mystery series, released January 15, 2020.
When the mayor’s golden retriever best friend goes missing under suspicious circumstances, Angie and Octo-Cat finally nab their first paying case.

OMG! I am in stitches laughing 😂 so hard at this awesome interview with Octo-Cat! So hilarious! But it most definitely tells me this is my kind of book and I absolutely must read it! However, I only see it listed for Kindle. Will it be available in paperback and if so when. I have to read this! Thanks so much dear Molly for such an awesome series and thanks dear Dru for this awesome interview! 😊😻💜
Some are in paperback, probably about $9.95 each. Guess they come out on Kindle first.
Thank you so much for the pawsome interview, Drew!
I wish you had pawsome copies of your books not everyone wants and e-version
While reading this hilarious interview, I was just thinking about how I have had “talks” with all of my furbabies, past and present. And I had a Maine Coon that would have been a hoot as a friend of Octo-Cat. Harry (hairy) was more a dog than a cat and we had jokingly said we had a dog, a cat, and a dat! Harry had a pitiful mew even when he weighed in at 19 pounds (guessing he was perhaps a little over a year at the time?) He came to you when called, had absolutely NO grace (walking along the edge and always fell off), and LOVED to be in the water! Can’t wait to get this next ‘Pet Whisperer PI’ so to continue the laughter!
I just started reading the Molly Fitz’s books, and I love them. I look forward to reading them all
