Perri first appeared in Death by Dog Show and one of the best ways to learn about a person is by asking questions, so let’s get to know Perri.

What is your name?
I’m Persephone Morgan but my friends (and even my fren-enemies) call me Perri.

How old are you?
I just turned 33 years of age.

What is your profession?
I am a professional leathersmith. Most of my work involves fashioning products for dogs and horses although lately my line of mother/daughter belts has become popular.

Do you have a significant other?
After the death of my fiancé, I never expected to find someone else but for the past three years I have grown close to another man.

What is his name and profession?
His name is Wing Pruett and he is a successful investigative journalist.

Any children?
None of my own but I love Pruett’s daughter Ella as if she were my own child.

Do you have any sibling(s)?
Alas, I have none.

Do your parents live near you?
If only that were true. Both my parents died in an accident when I was a child and I was a product of the foster care system.

Who is your best friend?
Babette Croy, an indomitable society matron is my best friend. We bonded over a shared love of animals and distaste for injustice.

Cats, dogs or other pets?
Fortunately I have quite a menagerie: my two retired military canines Keats and Poe; one irascible Maine Coon Cat, Thatcher; a conflicted pygmy goat named Zeke; and my newest addition, Raza, a beautiful Arabian rescue mare who soothes my soul.

What town do you live in?
I inherited a modest ranch house with some acreage in the tony town of Grand Falls, Virginia, about twenty miles from Washington D.C.

House or building complex? Own or Rent?
I own my little piece of heaven although most of my neighbors probably consider it a tear-down and eyesore.

What is your favorite spot in your house?
I like to cuddle up in a tattered old recliner that once belonged to my late fiancé, Pip.

Favorite meal? Favorite dessert?
Both Babette and I are addicted to Peruvian style chicken. The DC area is awash with those places. Although I’m not that crazy about desserts, a lemon meringue pie can always tempt me.

Favorite hobby?
Sounds strange, I know, but between dog and horse shows, work, and volunteer gigs, I really don’t have time for a hobby.

Favorite color?
Vibrant colors like red or yellow make me feel alive.

Favorite author?
The great Oscar Wilde.

Favorite vacation spot?
Sounds deadly dull, but I enjoy just kicking back at home.

Favorite sports team?
Not a team, actually, but I love polo. There are a lot of matches played in Northern Virginia and I am a really big fan of the incredible Nacho Figueras.

Movies or Broadway?
More than anything I prefer to watch the streaming services, particularly anything British.

Are you a morning or a night person?
Definitely morning. I do a ton of chores before going to my shop and filling customer orders.

Amateur sleuth or professional?
Definitely amateur.

Whom do you work with when sleuthing?
Babette is my Watson although to hear her tell it she is the master sleuth. Pruett usually joins in despite the fact that he tends to repress our high spirits and cramp our style. He believes his mission is to keep us safe and within the bounds of the law.

In a few sentences, what is a typical day in your life like?
During the week, I spend a minimum of 5 hours per day making leather products—filling orders and designing new items. Most weekends you can find me at either horse or dog shows. I try to be a good citizen by volunteering with animal related causes on a regular basis.

You can read about Perri in Homicide by Horse Show, the second book in the “Creature Comforts” cozy mystery series, released October 15, 2019.

Leathersmith Persephone “Perri” Morgan makes the kind of beautiful custom leashes and saddles that make wealthy dog and horse show lovers swoon—until murder strides onto the course . . .

When Perri’s BFF Babette hosts a meeting of Fairfax County’s affluent animal lovers to save a local horse rescue farm, the agenda gets sidetracked by the discovery of a corpse in the master bedroom. Everyone present is a suspect, including Perri’s main squeeze, Wing Pruett—Washington, DC’s sexiest reporter.

While Perri scours local horse and dog shows hoping to unmask the killer, she uncovers bad manners, infidelity, and low-level crime in her hunt for the killer—but what she can’t find are grounds for murder. When the killer strikes again and she gets a warning to stop her sleuthing, Perri has to muster all her training—and all her allies, human and animal alike—to make it out of the ring alive.
