Pete Adams first appeared in Circle of Influence and one of the best ways to learn about a person is by asking questions, so let’s get to know Pete.

What is your full name?
Peter James Adams, but you can call me Pete.

How old are you?
47

What is your profession?
I’m Vance Township Police Chief.

Do you have a significant other?
Yes, I’m engaged.

What is their name and profession?
Zoe Chambers is a paramedic and deputy coroner.

Do you have any children?
No.

Do you have any siblings?
I have one sister.

Are your parents nearby?
My mother passed away years ago. My pop has Alzheimer’s and is in an assisted living facility about 15 miles away.

Who is your best friend?
As corny as it sounds, Zoe is my best friend.

Do you have any pets?
Zoe has two cats, which I suppose I have to claim as mine too. They’re both orange. She can tell them apart, but I can’t.

What town do you live in?
I currently live in Dillard, PA, but I’m in the process of selling my house to move to Zoe’s farm, which is out in the country.

Would you say you live in a small town or a big city?
Dillard is a very small town. In fact, it’s considered to be a village.

Type of dwelling and do you own or rent?
My house is a one-story bungalow. Zoe’s farmhouse is a two-story. We own both.

What is your favorite spot in your home?
It may sound odd, but my favorite spot in my house is the basement. I have my woodworking shop set up down there.

Favorite meal and dessert?
Zoe makes a mean roast chicken. My favorite dessert is a tough call. I’d have to say lemon meringue pie with coconut crème a close second.

Do you have any hobbies?
I like to build reproduction muzzle loading rifles along with other woodworking projects.

What is your favorite vacation spot?
Any cabin in the mountains will do.

What music do you listen to?
Old time rock and roll, especially Bob Seger or Bruce Springsteen.

Do you have a favorite book?
Anything by Raymond Chandler.

What is your idea of a really fun time?
Playing poker with the gang on Saturday night.

If you were to write a memoir, what would you call it?
I spend too much time writing up reports and dealing with paperwork as is. No way would I write anything else, especially a memoir.

Amateur or professional sleuth and whom do you work with?
I’m professional law enforcement. Zoe, as deputy coroner, is also a professional investigator, although she tends to blur the lines between what’s her jurisdiction and what’s mine.

In a few sentences, what is a typical day in your life like?
Drink coffee. Catch up on what’s happened in the township overnight. Drink more coffee. Return phone calls. Respond to urgent and non-urgent calls. Drink more coffee. Go home and battle insomnia.

What does a typical day look like when you are on a case?
One of the things I love about my work is that there really isn’t a “typical” day or case. What I think would most surprise people though is that the bulk of investigation involves legwork. Talking to potential witnesses. Of course we collect evidence, but the lab work and testing takes more time than on the TV shows, so we often have the case solved by the time the evidence catches up to what we learn by simply asking questions. I guess to answer your question, a typical day looks like pounding the pavement and talking to neighbors, friends, family, and co-workers of the victim. And occasionally getting Zoe out of trouble. Okay, to be fair, she’s been known to come to my rescue too.

Til Death is the tenth book in the “Zoe Chambers” cozy mystery series, released June 16, 2020.

When one of Chief Pete Adams’ first murder convictions is overturned, he and County Detective Wayne Baronick are assigned to reinvestigate the case. As new theories about the murder surface, Pete begins to question not only the original suspect’s guilt, but his own investigative skills from the days when he first took over the Vance Township Police Department.

Did Pete put his personal feelings ahead of his quest for justice and lock up an innocent man? Or is the defendant as devious as Pete first believed?

Meanwhile, Zoe Chambers, Monongahela County’s new chief deputy coroner, struggles with the turmoil of two mysterious deaths—including someone close to her heart—as she tries to master her new job and plan her upcoming wedding.

But her investigation soon links to Pete’s case, making Zoe the target of a killer determined to keep the truth from getting out. Can Zoe see the danger in time, and get to the church for her wedding. . .alive?
