Veronica and I closed the PI firm early to come to Hermann-Grima House, a historic home in New Orleans’ French Quarter, for a fundraiser co-hosted by the Spring Fiesta Association. An artist donated a painting for the event, and the subject is our sixty-something ex-stripper landlady, Glenda. Unfortunately, the painting is missing, and we’re investigating the theft. But if you’d seen how the artist depicted Glenda, you wouldn’t believe anyone would steal it.

I (Cambria Clyne) took a spoonful of ice cream. The beautiful blend of calories danced across my taste buds, easing the budding stress in my shoulders. If only I had the same reaction to cauliflower, then perhaps I’d be able to squeeze back into my pre-baby clothes (never mind that my baby is three). Being an unemployed single mom in L.A. is stressful, and ice cream was cheaper than therapy. And I needed a lot of ice cream to get through this mess.

Appraising quilts was supposed to be a less stressful career for me (Keely Fairchild) than my previous one as a trial lawyer, but it hasn’t worked out that way. Today’s emergency has me going to a quilt show to appraise the damage to a Bright Hopes quilt that’s been intentionally sprayed with bleach, and my over-active nervous system is warning me that vandalism won’t be the worst crime I’ll run across this weekend.
