Rain Wilmot is the sleuth in “Lakeside Library” mysteries and sits down to answer a few questions so that we can get to know her better.
What is your full name?
Rain Wilmot
How old are you?
Thirty-two
What is your profession?
Library Director of my family’s log cabin library
Do you have a significant other?
It’s complicated. I recently lost my husband, so I’m not sure I’m ready. I’ll admit, my head has turned at a few eligible bachelors that have recently crossed my path though.
If so, what is his name and profession?
Well, there’s Jace, Julia’s brother, and then there’s Ryan. . .Oy!
Do you have any children?
No, my husband and I tried in vitro before he passed. It didn’t take.
Do you have any siblings?
I’m an only child
Are your parents nearby?
My father travels out of the country quite a bit for work, but his home base is in southern Wisconsin, along with my mother who concentrates much of her time on volunteer work.
Who is your best friend?
Julia
Do you have any pets?
No but my friend Marge, has a dog named Rex that hangs out in the library often. We love it when he comes to visit.

The fictitious town of Lofty Pines, Wisconsin
Do you live in a small town or a big city?
Lakeside community, it’s not huge
What type of dwelling do you own or rent?
Currently I’m living in my family’s generational log cabin on Pine Lake. I’m hoping to make it permanent.
What is your favorite spot in your home?
In between the stacks of books located at the adjacent log cabin library.
What is your favorite meal and dessert?
I make a mean, Enchilada Lasagna bake- just ask Jace. (*recipe located in the back of Long Overdue at the Lakeside Library)
Do you have any hobbies?
I like to go boating, waterskiing, etc. in the summer and snowmobiling in the winter. And reading books from my library, of course!
What is your favorite vacation spot?
Right here on Pine Lake is where I spent my summers as a child. Now, I’m lucky enough to live here. I feel like I’m on vacation every day.
What is your idea of a really fun time?
Hanging out with Julia. She makes me laugh and feel like we’re kids again, soaking up the rays on Pine Lake.
If you were to write a memoir, what would you call it?
The Sleuthing Librarian (chuckle)
Amateur or professional sleuth and whom do you work with?
Amateur but with Julia at my side, and her brother Jace, who is a cop, well, we make a pretty good team.
What is a typical day in your life?
A typical day would be me lending books to our local lakeside community from my family’s log cabin library. With Julia, and our older friend, Marge, at my side.

An icy cold murder and a library patron collide in Holly Danver’s second Lakeside Library Mystery.
A glowing wood stove, a cozy log cabin, and shelves full of books are all Rain Wilmot needs to ride out the Wisconsin winter, now that she’s made her family’s Lofty Pines library her year-round home. But the warm-hearted librarian’s blood runs cold when local man, Wallace Benson, is found dead during the annual Ice Fishing Jamboree.
After Benson’s body is found in his ice shanty, Rain recalls that she recently saw the victim in her library, borrowing a few cookbooks to prepare for the fishing tournament’s communal “chili dump.” She later finds these same books returned to the library’s drop box, with an enigmatic note from Benson to Rain.
As Rain seeks to understand the message, the prime suspect becomes Rain’s friend Nick, who was the last person to see Wallace alive and who returned to the Jamboree with a nasty cut on his hand. The knife found in his tackle box only makes Nick’s troubles worse. But Rain keeps fishing for other suspects. Was the killer Danny, who lost his arm to a logging accident involving Wallace? Or Danny’s bitter father, whose dreams of retirement were dashed by his son’s accident?
With the help of her friends Julia and Jace, Rain sets out to hook the real culprit and clear Nick’s name. But can her sleuthing skills protect her from a killer who’d like to take her out of circulation?
