Occupation: Archaeologist
Hi everyone, Mia Reid here!
I’m back home in Lakeview City. It’s Canada’s largest city population-wise, and it’s located on the shores of Lake Ontario. Although the city is big, where I live and work feels like a small neighborhood. I’m close to the museum and less than a fifteen-minute walk to my Gran’s place. I’m working at the Lakeview City Museum on a contract position. It’s a nice change from academia and working in the field.
My work at the museum is interesting; I’m doing something different most days. I’m working on a couple of projects, working closely with our communications and public relations team on those projects, and working with artifacts. I’m responsible for the exhibition of Aztec artifacts that opens next week. It’s been a lot of work to bring it all together, making sure the information about the artifacts is clear and in language that everyone can understand. My field experience has helped me write the scripts for the displays.
I did a guest spot on a morning show with our local television station, promoting the exhibit. The reporter and cameraman came to the museum, and I took them around some artifacts for the Aztec exhibit. I was kind of nervous, but it was fun!
Luke arrived from London this week, and we’ve settled into a nice routine. He’s doing some training work with the RCMP and with police in Lakeview, Montreal, and Vancouver. I’m glad he’s back.
But it isn’t all roses and champagne. My friend Danielle Fraser’s father passed away last weekend. She’s asked me to look into the circumstances surrounding his death. Luke and I discussed whether I should get involved. And so long as I share anything I learn about Mr. Fraser’s death with the police, it should be fine. The skills I’ve developed digging around archaeology sites will help me uncover information.
But the stakes just went up. I got home from work and found a threatening message in my mailbox. Telling me to stop investigating or else! And it’s not just me who’s being threatened. They’re threatening Gran too!
This makes it personal.
