S.H.E. first appeared in A Crafter Knits a Clue and one of the best ways to learn about a person is by asking questions, so let’s get to know S.H.E.

What is your name?
Sammy, and please let me introduce my sister Ellie and my cousin Heidi. When we were kids, we called ourselves S.H.E. Hey, don’t laugh, our childhood club of three solved a few neighborhood mysteries, such as finding the missing lunch box, and a stolen bike. We’ve since grown up, but we still like to investigate.

How old are you?
Early thirties – although they were ahead of me in school and graduated the same year. We tend to revert to our childhood when in each other’s company. Unfortunately, some things never change.

What is your profession?
I own and operate Community Craft; Heidi is a nurse, and Ellie is a stay at home mom.

Cats, dogs or other pets?
Bara is my golden retriever and the love of my life. Ellie is a clean freak and won’t have any pets and Heidi is still renting. We’re waiting for her to buy a farmhouse and raise chickens. Sammy smiles at her cousin.

What town do you live in?
Heartsford, WI. You won’t find it on a map.

Who is the best cook?
Sammy and Heidi look at Ellie.
Ellie: I am, and I share lots of recipes with all of you.

Favorite hobby?
I just picked up quilting through one of the gals who teaches at my shop and I love it!

Favorite vacation spot?
Northern Wisconsin, on a lake. I don’t get that opportunity very often as I’m running a retail shop.

Who is the instigator of your sleuthing?
Sammy! Ellie and Heidi blurt in unison and then share a grin.

Do you have any insider tips when investigating a crime?
Sammy nudges her cousin and Heidi pipes up. My boyfriend Tim works for the Heartsford Police Department.

Yeah, and Sammy seems to be charming Detective Liam Nash in our favor. Ellie adds with a wink.

Do these two appreciate your input regarding police investigations?
Sammy clears her throat, Not exactly. . . but they’re warming up.

The three laugh aloud.

I think as time goes on though they’re realizing our collective value. Sammy smiles.

Strengths for the three of you?
Sammy: I won’t stop until I find the truth.
Heidi: I have the ability to sneak things out of people without them knowing it.
Ellie: I’m the one who keeps the three of us safe.

Weaknesses for the three of you?
Sammy: I can be a bit impulsive and maybe have a sharp tongue at times.
Heidi: I tend to eavesdrop on Tim and dig for information he probably shouldn’t share with me.
Ellie: I’m the only one that can seem to talk common sense into these two when they want to take our snooping a bit too far. Like doing things against the law for example. Ellie raises an eyebrow and smirks at them.

Is there anything you wouldn’t do for each other?
No. The best thing about us three S.H.E.’s is I know we always have each other’s back. Sammy reaches out and shares a fist pump with her sister and cousin.

We’re family, Ellie adds with a smile.

In a few sentences, what is a typical day in your life like?
Sammy: I enjoy a rich dark brew first thing and then take my dog Bara for a walk. Typically, it’s off to Community Craft to open the shop on Main Street in Heartsford, WI. Something mysterious might pop up and grab my attention. Then I’ll have no other choice than to alert the S.H.E. team!

Heidi: My days are spent at the hospital, but I love to pop in Community Craft or grab a bite to eat with the other S.H.E.’s whenever I can.

Ellie: I’m a stay at home mom to three-year-old Tyler. I also work part-time at Community Craft when Sammy needs a hand. Yeah, us three S.H.E.’s. . .we’re pretty tight.” 😊

A Crafter Quilts a Crime is the third book in the “Handcrafted” cozy mystery series, coming February 11, 2020.

Community Craft proprietor Sammy Kane must piece together a patchwork of clues when a “live” mannequin ends up stone-cold dead.

Snowcapped pines and glittery dusted sidewalks adorn tranquil Heartsford, Wisconsin, while residents cuddle beneath heirloom quilts in front of cozy wood fires. But come the next day, the below-zero temperatures won’t keep the locals away from Heartsford’s annual Fire & Ice event. To boost customer traffic at Community Craft’s one-night-only sale, Samantha “Sammy” Kane persuades a few of the craftspeople who sell their wares at the store to participate in a live mannequin window display contest.

Local quilter Wanda Wadsworth emerges as a favorite to win the contest, as she manages to not move a muscle for an unusual amount of time. Onlookers outside the window try everything to get her to crack–tapping on the glass and making funny faces–but nothing disrupts Wanda’s stillness. When the eagle-eyed spectators realize Wanda isn’t breathing, a blanket of grief and fear descends upon the wintry town.

Detective Liam Nash can’t seem to piece the clues together. Fortunately, Sammy’s cousin, Heidi, and her sister, Ellie, are on hand to reconvene their detective team, S.H.E. They set out to solve Wanda’s untimely death before the case grows as icy as a sub-zero Wisconsin winter. But they are all too aware that the killer is too close for comfort.
