I’m Sandy. Sandy Shaw, and before you make any jokes about the singer with the same name as me, I’ve heard them all before.

I wasn’t named after the singer. My mum was a bit of a hippie, and she gave me and my sister Coral seaside names. You know, sandy shore. Coral shore. It’s a hoot.

I live in the beautiful Peak District in England, where the scenery is beautiful but the weather means you have to wrap up if you want to go out and see it. You totally should wrap up and go and see it, if you’re ever passing, though. It’s worth it.

The town I live in is called Waterfell Tweed, and I’m the proud owner of Books and Bakes, which does exactly what you’d expect it to! It sells books, and bakes!

A typical day in my life sees me waking up fairly early, either so I can be in the café early to do some baking, or to be there before the first customer of the day arrives if one of my employees is doing the baking.

At home it’s just me and The Cat, and I have no doubts about who is in charge out of the two of us! I’ve even started talking to him, which I never would have believed I would do, until I caught myself doing it. He’s so adorable, though. And grouchy.

My days go way too fast as I try to help run the café and the book shop upstairs. I’m a jack of all trades at work, helping out with everything from preparing the food, chatting to the customers, pricing up the new book stock, and cleaning up at end of the day. Thankfully I have a great pot washer, Derrick, so I manage to escape that job most days!

At the end of a long day’s work, I’ll usually return home, where I love nothing more than curling up with a good book.

I don’t get chance to indulge in my reading often, though. Waterfell Tweed has always been a quiet little town, but there have been a spate of murders lately, and I’ve kind of become an amateur sleuth, solving the cases before the police have.

I love the excitement, I admit. But my reading is really suffering!
