Sometimes the best way to know a person is by asking questions, where you can learn more about what makes them tick. Let’s see what Sarah has to say.

– – Sarah Decker Brandt Malloy

– – 29

What is your profession?
– – Midwife; Now I also manage a Maternity clinic that I recently opened on the Lower East Side.

– – Frank had a career as a Detective Sergeant for the New York City Police but he is now a Private Investigator

Any children?
– – Frank has a son and I have a foster daughter. When we married, we adopted them both.

– – New York City

Are you a morning or a night person?
– – Morning

In a few sentences, what is a typical day in your life like?
– – A typical day would be getting up, helping the children get ready for school and seeing them off. My mother-in-law takes Brian to New York Institution for the Deaf and Dumb and Maeve takes Catherine to Miss Spence’s School. Malloy usually goes to his office or out to investigate if he’s working on a case. I should then spend my day visiting friends or writing letters or planning social events. Instead, I often also go out investigating, if Malloy needs my help. If not, I go to the Maternity Clinic that I opened on the Lower East Side where women can go to safely deliver their babies or find refuge if they are pregnant and alone. This is how I manage to avoid the typical life of a society matron.

You can read about Sarah in Murder on Union Square, the 21st book in the “Gaslight” mystery series. The first book in the series is Murder on Astor Place.

When a murder hits close to home, Sarah Malloy’s husband, Frank, a former police sergeant turned private detective, finds himself in an unusual position—the prime suspect. . .

Sarah and Frank Malloy are enjoying married life and looking to make their family official by adopting Catherine, the child whom Sarah rescued and has been raising as her daughter. The process seems fairly straightforward, but at the last minute, the newlyweds discover that Parnell Vaughn, Catherine’s legal father, has a claim on the child, and his grasping fiancée is demanding a financial settlement to relinquish parental rights. Even though exchanging money for a child is illegal, Frank and Sarah’s love for Catherine drives them to comply.

When Frank returns with the money and finds Vaughn beaten to death, all evidence points to Frank as the culprit. A not-quite-famous actor with modest means, Vaughn seems an unlikely candidate for murder, particularly such a violent crime of passion. But Frank soon uncovers real-life intrigue as dramatic as any that appears on stage.

Sarah and Frank enlist those closest to them to help hunt for Vaughn’s killer as Frank’s own life—and the future of their family—hang in the balance.
