Savannah Martin first appeared in A Cutthroat Business and one of the best ways to learn about a person is by asking questions, so let’s get to know Savannah.

What is your name?
Savannah Martin Collier.

How old are you?
28.

What is your profession?
I have a real estate license that I don’t get to use as much as I had hoped when I first got it. Right now, I’m also sort of a stay-at-home mom, since I have a three-month-old baby who was born the day after Thanksgiving last year. And I’m renovating a house.

Do you have a significant other?
I’m married, for about eight months now.

What is his/her name and profession?
His name is Rafael Collier, Rafe for short, and he works for the TBI, the Tennessee Bureau of Investigations, and at the moment, the Columbia, Tennessee, PD.

Any children?
We have one. Her name is Caroline, Carrie for short – named after my great-great-a few more greats-grandmother. She’s three months old. And Rafe has a son named David who’s living with his adopted parents in Nashville. David’s thirteen.

Do you have any sibling(s)?
Three. My brother Dix, my sister Catherine, and our sister Darcy, who’s Dad’s daughter from a relationship he had before he met Mother.

Do your parents live near you?
My dad died a few years ago. At the moment, Rafe and I live in the Martin mansion in Sweetwater, since we had a fire at our house in Nashville a few weeks ago, and since Mother decided to live in sin with the sheriff. They’re about five minutes away.

Who is your best friend?
That’s a toss-up. My best friend growing up was Charlotte, but she married and moved to North Carolina. A couple of years ago, my new best friend—maid of honor at my wedding – became homicide detective Tamara Grimaldi with the Nashville PD. Now Charlotte’s back, though, so they’re both around. The new me probably feels closer to Grimaldi, but there’s a lot of history with Charlotte.

Cats, dogs or other pets?
We have a pitbull terrier named Pearl whom we rescued from a crime scene a few months back.

What town do you live in?
Sweetwater, Tennessee, for the past two months. Before that, Nashville. It’ll probably be Nashville again once our house is finished being renovated from the fire.

House or building complex? Own or Rent?
The Martin mansion, a 5,000 square feet antebellum plantation home that’s been in the Martin family since around 1840. Rent free.

What is your favorite spot in your house?
I’m married to a really hot guy, so I’d have to say bed.

Favorite meal? Favorite dessert?
Chicken Marsala and cheesecake.

Favorite hobby?
I read historical romance novels. I’m making plans to write one. And I’ve just learned to lay tile. Other than that, I stumble over dead bodies too much of the time.

Favorite color?
Black. It’s slimming.

Favorite author?
Barbara Botticelli. Although now that she’s no longer with us, maybe Tessa Dare.

Favorite vacation spot?
Paris.

Favorite sports team?
I’m not really into sports, you know? Although the Yankees have the best uniforms. Those pinstripes are very nice. [Editor’s Note: yes they are]

Movies or Broadway?
I live a long way from Broadway, so it’s usually movies. My husband’s into action type movies. I like a good romantic comedy.

Are you a morning or a night person?
At the moment, I’m both. Or neither. The baby’s three months old, and I’m up late, and up early, and tired all the time.

Amateur sleuth or professional?
Amateur. Although I’m getting better at it.

Whom do you work with when sleuthing?
My husband. Sometimes Tamara Grimaldi or my sister Darcy. Lately, it’s been my friend Charlotte, but she’s not as excited about it as the others.

In a few sentences, what is a typical day in your life like?
I wake up at the crack of dawn to feed the baby. Charlotte and I are spending some of Darcy’s money on renovating a house on Fulton Street in Columbia, so after breakfast I go there and tear things out and put them back in. At the end of the day, I go home and make dinner for my husband. We spend time with the baby, and then we put her to bed and spend time together. She usually wakes up once or twice every night because she’s hungry. And then I do it again the next morning.

If only the world would stop throwing her curveballs. . .

When Savannah and her best friend Charlotte decide to flip a foreclosed property in nearby Columbia, they talk Savannah’s sister Darcy into putting up the money for the renovations, and go to work.

But no sooner have they ripped up the carpet and torn out the kitchen cabinets, than the previous owner shows up and invokes his statutory right of redemption. After four years in prison for a crime he says he didn’t commit, he’s back in town to clear his name, and he wants his house back. And according to Savannah’s legal-eagle brother Dix, there’s nothing anyone can do to stop him.

Until someone drops him in his tracks, with a murder weapon that has Charlotte’s fingerprints all over it.

Savannah’s husband Rafe has his hands full at the local PD, so the murder investigation falls on another detective, one who doesn’t share Savannah’s conviction that Charlotte wouldn’t hurt a fly. But when Savannah decides to do some investigating of her own, it soon becomes clear that there’s more to this flipping fiasco than meets the eye. . .
