Slash first appeared in No One Lives Twice and one of the best ways to learn about a person is by asking questions, so let’s get to know Slash.

What is your name?
My name is Slash. Well, that isn’t the actual name I was born with, but it’s the name I choose to be known by these days. No, I’m not the guitarist in a rock band, as some people mistakenly think. Slash is actually short for backslash, which in computer speak is a hard separation line. I wanted to separate my old life with my new one, so choosing the name Slash was a deliberate way to signal how I was going to move forward with my life. I’m Italian-American and still trying to figure things out like doggie bags in restaurants and tea that’s cold.

How old are you?
Mid-thirties.

What is your profession?
I’m currently the Director of the Information Assurance Directorate at the National Security Agency. I’m also the CEO of Frisson, a company providing cryptological simulation and training systems for the U.S. government. But I’m above all, I’m a hacker. A very good one.

Do you have a significant other?
My significant other is Lexi Carmichael, the most genuine, honest and intelligent woman I’ve ever met. What you see with Lexi is what you get. I can’t tell you how sexy that is to me. Having worked in professions where lying, deceit and dishonesty is how people operate, Lexi is a breath of fresh air in my life. Her brilliant mind excites me, her curious mind and logical approach to life is in perfect sync with mine. If only she didn’t have that little black cloud of trouble that always follows her around.

What is her name and profession?
See above.

Any children?
No.

Do you have any siblings?
Yes, an older brother and a younger brother.

Do your parents live near you?
Unfortunately, no. My mother lives in England at the moment.

Who is your best friend?
Lexi, hands down. I don’t trust many people and don’t have many friends, but Lexi is my sounding board and my comfort.

Cats, dogs or other pets?
No, although I love animals. Lexi has a little bit of trouble with animals. Crazy things happen when Lexi and animals are combined.

What town do you live in?
I’m currently in Silver Spring, Maryland, not too far from the National Security Agency.

Type of dwelling and do you own or rent?
I bought a house and remodeled it.

What is your favorite spot in your home?
No question, our home office with our computers and equipment. We do spend a lot of time in the home gym, though, and also in the bathroom where I installed some wickedly fun shower heads.

Favorite meal and dessert?
Nonna’s lasagna for dinner, cannoli for dessert, finished off with an excellent glass of limoncello.

Favorite hobby?
Hacking, of course.

Favorite color?
Black.

Favorite author?
Anyone who writes about new developments in computer hacking.

Favorite vacation spot?
The ocean, specifically, the Amalfi Coast in Italy.

Favorite sports team?
I’m all about football (that’s what we Italians call soccer).

Movies or live theater?
Live theater, any day. I’m especially fond of the opera.

Are you a morning or a night person?
Both.

Amateur or professional sleuth and whom do you work with?
I really can’t tell you much more about my job, or I’d have to kill you. Nope, I’m not joking.

In a few sentences, what is a typical day in your life like?
Wake up, save the world with Lexi, eat and go to sleep. Most of the time we’re traveling somewhere. It’s the perfect life for me.

One last fling (with danger) before the ring?

Nothing’s that simple when you’re a geek girl. Julie Moffett’s beloved Lexi Carmichael mystery series returns with No Questions Asked.

Lexi Carmichael: saving scientists one snake at a time.

Weddings aren’t my thing—never have been. But eloping would break my mother’s heart, especially since the president of the United States put in a good word for me with his daughter’s wedding planner. I’m going to have the wedding of the year…whether I like it or not.

Before we can say I do, Slash and I are flying off to the Brazilian rain forest. Our mission: stop hackers from stealing a vaccine that could save millions of lives. I thought it’d be easy, but from the moment we step off the plane, I’m up to my neck in trouble.

After an attack by drug-runners, being kidnapped and discovering that the bad guy is even worse than we’d imagined, I’m pretty sure someone in our group is working for the enemy. And they’re succeeding. I’ll have to use all my geek skills to stop the bad guys if I’m going to make it home in time to tie that knot.
