Stone Cold by C.J. Box is the 14th book in the “Joe Pickett” thriller series. Publisher: Putnam, March 2014
Everything about the man is a mystery: the massive ranch in the remote Black Hills of Wyoming that nobody ever visits, the women who live with him, the secret philanthropies, the private airstrip, the sudden disappearances. And especially the persistent rumors that the man’s wealth comes from killing people.
Joe Pickett, still officially a game warden but now mostly a troubleshooter for the governor, is assigned to find out what the truth is, but he discovers a lot more than he’d bargained for. There are two other men living up at that ranch. One is a stone-cold killer who takes an instant dislike to Joe. The other is new—but Joe knows him all too well. The first man doesn’t frighten Joe. The second is another story entirely.
Man, from the start, this book pulled in immediately to the point where it was hard to put down. As always, the writing style is comfortable and I love the size of each paragraph that takes you more deeper into the multiple plots within the pages of this riveting novel that took me on a roller coast ride of thrills and high peaks. Joe is at the top of his game as he tackles his assignments with a surprise sighting by not one but by two people one of whom he’s pleased to see. This is another great read and one of the best in grippingly suspenseful series.
I’ve heard about C.J. for a years. I’ve got to try one.
I really don’t care much for scary stories.
CJ Box is definitely my favorite author these days. Every book is a 5 star. His stories are so gripping that I feel like I’ve barely begun them before. I’m on the last page. Love how he has a great mystery, but so gets family life with three girls also. This series is great on audible too!! Highly recommend it for everyone! GRAM—it’s not “thriller/horror” scary. It’s more tension scary.
My mother in law loves this author. I haven’t read any of his books yet. This one sounds great!
I am so surprised that this latest book is the 14th in this series and yet neither my husband nor I have ever gotten to read any of them, but we will now as this one sounds sooooo good. We listen to a LOT of mysteries and intrigue on CD’s while riding in our car, so will look into getting going on this series via our books on CD I think. Sounds like a plan. 🙂
Good job Dru and thank you for all of your reading to help all of us blog followers out. You are great.
Thanks so much..
