Swift Justice by Laura DiSilverio is the first book in the new “Charlotte *Charlie* Swift” mystery series. Publisher: Minotaur Books, October 2010

Charlotte “Charlie” Swift lives and works alone, and aside from the occasional flirtation with sexy cop Connor Montgomery or her hunky neighbor Father Dan, she likes it that way. All that changes when her silent partner in Swift Investigations flees the country, and his wife. Charlie is left with an amazing amount of debt and one ex-wife, Gigi, who has decided to be a not-so-silent partner. The sudden change comes about while Charlie is investigating the unexpected appearance of a baby on a doorstep—literally. As the case progresses, Gigi gets sent on crazy assignments to keep her out of the way. But when the baby’s mother turns up dead, Charlie is on a search to find a killer and the baby daddy, and she’ll need Gigi’s help.

I had fun reading this book. Charlie is like the engine that could and does when she’s tackling her caseload. She gets an interesting one and it appears to be simple, but there are many twists and turns to keep you turning the page. When her silent partner runs off, Charlie gets a partner that she doesn’t want and that’s when the fun begins. This was an entertaining and amusing debut novel and I look forward to reading the next adventures of Charlie and Gigi.
