There are certain rules one must follow as a member of high society, and these hold doubly true when you are secretly a spy.

Allow me to introduce myself. In most social circles, I’m known as Theodora Laurent, the international femme fatale with a mysterious past. Between my rapier-sharp wit, ready laugh, penchant for showing a hint of skin, and steady stream of men offering me their arm, no one would ever guess my real identity.

Once upon a time, I was the daughter of a Duke and the wife of a Viscount. Don’t let the titles fool you, my dear. I’ve been a hoyden since the day I came screaming from my mother’s womb. Packing me off to a Swiss finishing school hardly made a dent in my adventurous spirit. The outbreak of the Great War offered me the chance to do something more than preside over a perfectly set dinner table. Is it any wonder I snuck off and signed on as a nurse?

While I cared for the wounded and held the hands of the dying, my mind was busy plotting my next move. Entering into a marriage of convenience with a close friend seemed the ideal solution for avoiding the marriage mart and my mother’s demands I return home. But when my status went from newlywed to newly widowed overnight, I had to come up with a plan B.

However, there was one little problem standing in my way.

My husband’s death was no accident of war. He was set-up to fail by someone on our side. We had a spy in our camp, sentencing our men to certain death. There was no way I could move on with my life without first identifying who ended his.

To understand my journey from dutiful daughter to devoted wife to the infamous Theodora Laurent, it is best if you start at the beginning. Luckily for you, I’ve found time in between fencing lessons and dress fittings to put my pen to paper.

Read my first story, Murder at the Front, to find out how I solved the case of my husband’s death. Keep an eye out in 2023 for my 1920s mystery, Murder, I Spy.

Murder at the Front, A Dora and Rex Mystery Prequel
Genre: Historical
Release: December 2022

When marrying at the front lines, there is always a chance that death will be a guest at the wedding.

France, 1918 – Lady Dorothy entered into a marriage of convenience with her eyes wide open. But even she never expected to go from newlywed to newly widowed overnight.

When her husband’s unit is ambushed during a secret mission, she’s left with more questions than answers. How did the enemy know exactly where to find them? Why did only one man — Lord Rex — survive?

Luck may have saved him once, but Rex knows he can’t count on good fortune to solve the mystery of why his unit was gunned down. Injury may have sidelined him from battle. It won’t stop him from ferreting out the truth.

Dora’s determination to prove her worth faces off against Rex’s drive to avenge his fellow soldiers. Only one of them is smart enough to unmask the traitor in their midst. The shocking reveal and subsequent fall-out will lead to a dramatic change in both of their lives.
