Theodora sits down for a question-and-answer session with dru’s book musings so that we can get to know her better.

What is your full name?
As far as the world is concerned, I’m none other than Theodora Laurent. However, those closest to me know that I was born with a different name. You’ll have to read my books to find out what that is.

How old are you?
I’m midway through my 20s.

What is your profession?
The papers will tell you I’m a frivolous, high society gal, but I’ll let you in on a secret. That identity is only a cover. I’m really a British spy.

Do you have a significant other?
There are hints of love on the horizon

What is their name and profession?
Lord Reginald Bankes-Fernsby (better known as Lord Rex) is fast on his way to securing my pledge of affection.

Do you have any children?
No

Do you have any siblings?
Two brothers – one lost to the war, the other a pain in my side!

Are your parents nearby?
Yes, they are… sometimes too close.

Who is your best friend?
Inga Kay is my dearest friend and lifelong companion. I’d be utterly lost without her.

Do you have cats, dogs, or other pets?
No, I don’t. But, Lord Rex does have a cat names Mews.

What town do you live in?
London, England

What type of dwelling do you own or rent?
I’m renting a lovely townhouse in Belgravia.

What is your favorite spot in your home?
The secret room only accessible through a hidden door in my library.

What is your favorite meal and dessert?
I’ve picked up several favourites during my travels around the world – Pasta Carbonara in Italy, Fondue in Switzerland, and the Austrian Sacher Torte. But nothing compares to the British cucumber, cream cheese, and mint finger-sandwiches I loved as a child.

Do you have any hobbies?
Going undercover in elaborate costumes, scaling walls and running along rooftops, and curling up with a good book.

What music do you listen to?
Anything I can play on my gramophone.

What is your favorite color?
Vixen red

What is your favorite vacation spot?
The Amalfi Coast in Italy.

Are you a morning or night person?
Night – absolutely. Mornings are only fun when the night-time activities carry on past daybreak.

What is your idea of a really fun time?
Putting on a fringed dress, diamonds, and a headband and stepping out for a night at Club 42… if I manage to overhear something useful, all the better.

If you were to write a memoir, what would you call it?
Darling – I would never, ever write a memoir! My whole identity is hidden behind half-truths, vagaries, and lies. It wouldn’t do for me to put the rumours to rest with anything as boring as the truth.

Amateur or professional sleuth and whom do you work with?
As a professional spy, I’m fully trained in the art of eliciting information. However, solving murders was never meant to be part of my job. Thank goodness I can count on the help of Lord Rex, Inga, my butler Harris, Rex’s conniving grandmother, and the sly Lord Audley.

What is a typical day in your life like?
I make it a point to lie in until noon whenever possible. The afternoons are designated as study time. I read all the papers, review my insights and gathered rumours, practice my hand at lock-picking, and undertaking physical fitness exercises. By the time darkness rolls around, I’m dressed in my newest glad rags, bejewelled and beribboned, and ready for a night on the town.

They were sent to identify the spy in their midst. Instead, they’ll have to unmask his murderer.

England, 1922. After their adventures at Westminster, Dora and Rex depart for a quiet month in the Cotswolds. Or at least, that’s what everyone thinks.

In truth, they’re working on a new assignment — investigating rumours that a titled foreigner might be more than he appears. Rex invites the man to his family manor for a rollicking weekend of fun. In between bouts of lawn tennis and parlour games, he and Dora are to uncover the truth about the man’s identity.

The servants barely have time to unpack everyone’s case before the suspected spy is found with an antique dagger sticking from his back. With so few suspects, the case shouldn’t be too hard to solve. But when every door leads to a dead end, Dora and Rex are forced to consider a most unpalatable option.

Were they wrong in thinking the man was a foreign spy? Or… could someone else have a powerful motive for murder?
