Meow! My name is Toby McCall, otherwise known as the Wanderer. I got that nickname because of my penchant for getting out of my cage in the shelter and, well, . . .wandering! I canvassed the entire town of Deer Park, North Carolina, searching for my perfect human, and I finally found her in Sydney (Syd) McCall.

Syd’s the perfect human in my eyes. She loves me and takes care of me, lets me curl up in the bed next to her and most importantly gives me three square meals a day (sometimes more, meow!) She also keeps me supplied with my favorite toy, Marvelous Melvin the Mouse! I love to decapitate him and leave the heads around for her to find! After all, that’s what we cats do – leave our humans presents!

Syd does have a talent that sometimes can be pretty dangerous – she likes to solve mysteries. Take this latest one – I believe it’s called Death By A Whisker. Syd tries to figure out who killed shopping channel queen Ulla Townsend. That babe was plenty nasty-believe you me, there were plenty of suspects! Unfortunately, Syd’s friend Maggie Shayne topped the list! And, as usual, Syd finds herself in danger. . .but you’ll have to read all about it to find out how!

Syd’s pal Dayna Harper, who runs the local sweet shop, is always on hand making sweet treats for humans (and sometimes for animals, too!) Here’s a treat that’s always enjoyable:

Whoopie Pies (a Southern treat!)
INGREDIENTS:
1/2 of an 8-ounce package reduced-fat cream cheese (Neufchatel), softened
1/4 cup butter, softened
1/2 of a 7-ounce jar marshmallow creme
12 soft cookies

In a mixing bowl, beat cream cheese and butter with an electric mixer on medium to high speed until smooth and fluffy. Fold in march mallow crème.

Spread filling on bottoms of half of the cookies. Top with the remaining cookies, bottom sides down. If you like the filling firm, chill about 2 hours before serving!

You can read more about Toby and his human Syd in Death By A Whisker, the second book in the “Cat Rescue” mystery series, coming February 13, 2018. The first book in the series is Purr M for Murder.

Getting used to life back home in Deer Park, North Carolina, Sydney McCall and her right-hand tabby, Toby, are helping her sister Kat run the local animal shelter. Syd and Kat are all excited about the prospect of the shelter’s newest fundraiser: shopping channel queen Ulla Townsend. Shelter admin Maggie Shayne vehemently refuses to have anything to do with the woman, but the fundraiser ensues as planned. That is, until Ulla turns up dead in the middle of the event.

The cause of death is determined to be an allergic reaction, but Syd and Toby are sniffing out something fishy. When Syd met Ulla, it was clear she was distasteful and rude. And right before the event, Syd spotted some behind-the-scenes drama between Ulla and her manager. As they begin to investigate, they realize there is no shortage of suspects, and Maggie is at the top of the list.

Now Syd and Toby must claw their way to the truth before everything goes paws up at their animal shelter in Death by a Whisker by national bestselling author T. C. LoTempio.
