Oh, hi! You caught me in the middle of getting ready for my gig tonight at the Steel Horse Bar. Right now, you might be asking yourself. . .what is a ‘gig’? That is quite alright; I had to teach my sister Alexia a singer’s terminology as well. A gig is a performance, or a show. Unfortunately, I’m not performing at Madison Square Garden YET; although it is my dream to see my name VY in big, vibrate, flashing letters. Today, however, I am, what you may consider, a struggling musician. One reason I’m struggling is because I refuse to sleep with the executives in the Miami music industry. Aside from my mediocre paycheck as a legal assistant by day, I supplement my income by gigging on the weekends at sports bars, the occasional weddings, and private parties, with the hope that I will get discovered.
My cat Marilyn, named after the infamous Marilyn Monroe, has the privilege of watching me get ready every weekend. Out of the three hours I have to get ready, I take about half the time choosing my outfit. Aside from the vocals, the proper outfit is the key to becoming an unforgettable lead singer. I have to come across as sexy, but not loose; available, but possibly taken. There is a special technique and method to my fashion madness.
Little did I know that tonight I was going to be unforgettable, not because of my outfit, but as a possible murder suspect in the death of Ricky Callister, the manager of the Steel Horse Bar. My nightmare starts something like this. . .I am taking my first break and sitting with my best friend Tina. As we raise our glasses to toast to friendship, we hear a loud scream over a Led Zeppelin song. Cassandra, the bartender, hysterically comes out of Ricky’s office yelling, “He’s dead Kyle. He. Is. Dead!” So now, I’m in the middle of this murder investigation and the first thing that comes to mind is to call my big sister Alexia. She will know how to get me out of this murderous mess.
There goes tonight’s gig pay.
You can read more about Vy in The Last Note, the first book in the NEW “Miami Music” mystery series.
Killer songs and a killer voice, but a killer at her gig? Vy has always found herself at the center of attention as the lead singer for one of Miami’s top cover bands, but when she finds herself at the center of a murder investigation, while performing at the Steel Horse Bar, that changes the tune of the night. Someone believes that Vy knows the truth behind the murder of the bar owner Ricky, and now that person is after her. Vy better figure out quickly who wanted Ricky dead, who is threatening her with her favorite band’s song lyrics, and why she’s falling for the handsome Detective Houston, before she too sings her last note. With a mixture of mystery, mayhem and comedy, you will find yourself immersed in Vy’s musical and murderous world.

Meet the author
The novel’s main backdrop, the amazing city of Miami, Florida, is beloved and well-known to me. I was born and raised in Miami, and like the novel’s main character Vy, I am a singer/songwriter, as well as the lead singer to a self-proclaimed cover band. All things relating to music or literature are my passion. I keep a journal, and I am constantly writing poems, stories, and any thought that comes to mind. I have a fascination for black and white films, that have the element of mystery. As I have been told by many, I have a very creative imagination.
Many years ago, I became an avid reader of cozy mysteries. The storylines were intriguing, engaging, and funny at the same time. I was so inspired by the authors, that I then decided to take my musical experiences, and put it on paper. I began writing this first novel in 2009. In between my full-time job, my weekend gigs, and my personal life, I finally completed the novel. The phobia’s, the dream sequences, and the quirkiness of the main characters, are all based on facts. I hope that I was able to bring the love I have for Miami, the Cuban culture, my family, and music, to the readers of my novel, and to the series to come.
All comments are welcomed.
