Murder of a Needled Knitter by Denise Swanson features Scumble River Police Chief Wally Boyd on his honeymoon cruise. He’s here today to chat with us about this upcoming trip.
I love my new wife, school psychologist Skye Denison-Boyd, to distraction, but her friends and family can be a bit overwhelming. Skye is a gorgeous curvy armful of delight with a heart as big as my native state of Texas. She’s smart and funny and makes me feel like I’m the luckiest man in the world. Our passion for each other is off the charts, and now that we’re finally married, and her resident ghost, Mrs. Griggs has put the seal of approval on our relationship, I plan to spend the rest of my life finding new ways to—nope, not going there. I probably shouldn’t have had that last glass of champagne on the flight from Chicago to Florida. Or maybe I should have turned down the mimosa our steward had ready for us when we got into our suite just now.
Okay. Back to the one little flaw that might gum up the works of our happy life-Skye’s family. She’s a lot closer to them than I am to mine, although I am getting along better with my dad and cousin since I convinced them that I’m never returning to Texas and never taking over the family oil business. But it’s a doggone shame that Skye’s people tend to be so smothering.
I have to admit, when she told me how hard it was to stand up to her mother and keep her independence, I figured it wouldn’t be a problem for me. Or I should say, I thought that way until a few minutes ago. We had just boarded the ship and were waiting for the elevator to take us to our suite, when Skye turned whiter than a bowl of rice, pointed to the staircase behind us, and said, “I just saw my mother.”
I assured her she was just overwrought from the past week—celebrating Christmas, putting on a wedding, and solving a murder would stress anyone out. But I’m a mite worried that my darlin’ could be right. I’m trying not to think about it, hoping Skye was mistaken, but my gut tells me that my mother-in-law is on our honeymoon cruise.
Well, even if May is onboard we can always lock ourselves in our suite so as long as no one gets murdered, I’m sure we can still enjoy our trip.
You can read more about Wally and Skye’s honeymoon, in Murder of a Needled Knitter, the 17th book in the “Scumble River” mystery series, published by Obsidian. The first book in the series is Murder of a Small-Town Honey.

I enjoy this series, although I think I’m a couple of books behind right now. Glad to see there’s another installment that I can add to my book list!

Having your mother (or mother in law) show up on your honeymoon is really not good!
But funny!
Love this series and loved this book. The plot is terrific, but for me the fun was being a spectator at the honeymoon, after following the courtship for so long, as well as getting to know her friends and her parents better. New sides to everyone.
Thanks, Valerie!
I love this series! I’m glad Wally is helping Skye stand up to her family. They mean well, but her mother can be overwhelming!
Very true, Linda, but SKye is getting better at it too.
Having followed the courtship of Skye and Wally, I am excited about reading this new book in the series. Congrats to Denise Swanson on the continuation of a great series.
Thanks so much Robin!

Thanks for the kind words, Jessica!
I have to admit I haven’t met Wally yet. Help me remedy that. Thanks.
Hope you get to give my series a try.
I eagerly await each of Denise’s books in this series. I retired after teaching for thirty-four years, and so many items about Skye’s school life ring true. Why is it that the psychologist’s office is always the smallest in the building?
Thanks, Lynette. No school stuff in this book, but the next one, Skye is back on duty.
Would love to win!
Thanks, Dawn!
This is one of my favorite series , thanks for a chance to win the newest installment !
Glad you like the series,Kathy!
Love these books. Thanks so much for the chance to win.
Thanks, Mary
The in-law issues–luckily both our sets of parents were a dream, but the stories I’ve heard over the years!! Will be interesting to see how that fits into a murder mystery, without murdering the in-laws!!
LOL!
I love Wally’s comments, and I agree family can be overwhelming, especially when they show up on your honeymoon. I can’t wait to read this book, thanks for the chance to win.
Thanks, Debbie. It is a balancing act.
Since I just, recently, got back into reading cozy mysteries, I’ve got a lot of catching up to do! 🙂
Hope you’ll give my series a try, Patricia!
I already own this. This is a fantastic book! If I win I will give it to my Grandma. She enjoys Denise’s books.
Thanks, Candace!

The latest book in Denise’s series sounds so good and I can hardly wait to get it. I didn’t begin with this series when it started but picked up with book 8 I believe it was. I have enjoyed all of the stories so far and this one seems like it might just be the best one yet. Keep up the great writing, Denise.
