Aloha folks. McKenna here. And before you ask, no, I don’t have any apartments available for rent at this time. As usual, the Sunsetter Apartments are full up. I almost had an opening when Grace in number 14 lost everything in one of those work-at-home scams. Fortunately for Grace, my PI-wannabe friend Chance Logan and I saved the day. Which brings me to my point—living in paradise ain’t all it’s cracked up to be. Sure, we have fabulous weather and palm trees, but we have a lot of problems. One that plagues me is I keep stumbling across strange murder cases.
Each time I figure I’m going to be laying off this amateur sleuth stuff somebody shows up with another problem. Let’s face it, sticking your nose into other people’s business can be hazardous to your health—especially if said person is a killer. Don’t tell the Chamber of Commerce, but I’m beginning to think it’s something in the water—and I don’t mean the kind we drink.
When you think about it, here in Hawaii we live on a little rock surrounded by thousands of square miles of ocean. Maybe all that isolation is causing people to get some version of island fever that causes them to “kill thy neighbor.” I know, it sounds a little strange, but when you’ve solved as many murder cases as I have, you begin to wonder.
Anyway, other than doing mundane landlord stuff, that’s how my days go—solve a murder, move on. If this keeps up, the Chamber of Commerce is going to have to add the Sunsetter Apartments as a tourist attraction. That’s all I need—some grandma from Duluth knocking on my door looking for an autograph. Or worse, she might want me to find grandpa’s killer.

His tenant’s simple fragrance scam might involve industrial espionage, Skye’s assistant is murdered, and McKenna’s bride-to-be accuses him of having cold feet.
As McKenna and Chance dig deeper, it seems so much of what they’re being told doesn’t pass the sniff test. And the only way to get his life back is to find the dead girl’s missing boyfriend, unmask a killer, and finish up in time for the wedding. Other than that, it’s just another day in paradise.
