You know that moment when someone you care about is struggling with something and you want to do anything you can think of to help out?
Yeah, that was me the other day when I stopped by Jay Morgan’s office. For those of you who haven’t met Jay, he’s a super cute business professor at Silver Lake College who just happens to be my new boyfriend.
That’s right. Me, Winnie Johnson. . .with a boyfriend. Oh, and I found him on my own—a feat that still amazes Renee, my employee-turned-best friend.
Anyway, things are, in a word, awesome (with the lone exception of the fact his teenage daughter can’t stand me).
So when I got wind that he was upset over the very real possibility that he’d have to fail one of his students, I offered to let said student do a little intern work with my Emergency Dessert Squad. I figured it was a win-win—she could boost her grade in Jay’s class, Jay could stop worrying about whether she’d graduate or not, and Renee and I could have an extra pair of hands even if we didn’t really need it.
Jay tried to warn me she was trouble.
Renee tried to warn me she was trouble.
But I didn’t listen.
And now, my business (and me) are linked to a murder.
You can read more about Winnie in The Silence of the Flans, the second book in the “Emergency Dessert Squad” Mysteries.
The second delectable Emergency Dessert Squad Mystery from the national bestselling author of Éclair and Present Danger.
Baker Winnie Johnson does her best work when the heat is on. As owner of the Emergency Dessert Squad, she has a deft touch in the kitchen and a soft spot for lost causes. So when her business professor beau, Jay Morgan, expresses misgivings over having to fail one of his fourth-year students, Winnie cooks up a sweet solution.
She’ll offer an extra credit opportunity in exchange for a little help with her growing business. But when her protégé’s first dessert delivery poisons a student journalist, the publicity threatens to burn Winnie’s business to a crisp. Now the entrepreneur-turned-detective must uncover the ingredients behind a recipe for murder before she crumbles under pressure. . .
