Why do you write the genre that you write?
I tried writing other genres when I was a kid but from the time I picked up Mary Higgins Clark’s Where Are The Children, I’ve been hooked on mystery and suspense. Also, I’ve always enjoyed creating puzzles and I love that aspect of plotting out a whodunit.

Tell us how you got into writing?
My first writing implement was a crayon. I’ve always written. In fact, for a long time, I didn’t realize that EVERYONE didn’t write! In high school, I’d write novel-length fan fiction longhand in pencil in spiral-bound notebooks. During study hall, I’d pass it around so my “fans” could read what I’d added to the story. They’d send it back to me with orders to “write more!” That’s very addicting. I still love to hear it! It was a long time between high school and finally getting a publishing contract, but I still wrote daily in some form.

What’s next for you?
I’m venturing outside of my traditionally published safe zone and am indie pubbing a standalone for the first time. Death By Equine is about a veterinarian at a second-rate thoroughbred racetrack seeking to find the truth about her mentor’s mysterious death.

What are you reading now?
I just finished M. E. Browning’s Shadow Ridge and loved it! Next up is Rachel Howzell Hall’s And Now She’s Gone.

And even more fun . . .

You are stranded on a deserted island. What are your three must-haves?
Are we ruling out living beings? If not, my husband and my cat are the top two. However, if we’re ruling them out, I would say a loaded Kindle, but I think I’d be outta luck once the battery died. So a book by either Julia Spencer Fleming or Craig Johnson (because I can read those over and over), a thick notebook, and a turquoise gel pen.
