Why do you write the genre that you write?
I adore mysteries and crime novels. It’s my interest in human nature-and the inevitability of our dark sides-that intrigues me. I am also a puzzle solver so I love to build a plot that sprinkles clues, red herrings, and surprises, but ultimately presents a logical rationale for the questions of who dunnit, and why.

Tell us how you got into writing?
I’ve been writing all my life. It’s a natural way of expressing myself. Almost all the jobs I’ve ever had included massive amounts of writing, and I loved writing in school.

What’s next for you?
More of the same. More Charlie Mack, Warn Me When It’s Time, the sixth in the series was released in June, and more crime/mystery writing. I have a stand-alone that I’m editing now, and a piece of literary fiction with mystery and historical elements.

What are you reading now?
Robyn Gigl’s By Way of Sorrow; Tracy Clark’s Runner; Sean Cosby’s Razorblade Tears.

Where can we find you?
My website at cherylhead.com. On social media at: Facebook, and Twitter at @cheaddc. In April I had a conversation with Kristopher Zgorski and Kellye Garrett through the Enoch Pratt Library. In May, I talked about my new book at the Golden Crown Literary Society Book Club. In June, I was part of a Pride Panel for Sisters in Crime organized by Edwin Hill; and another Pride Month mystery writers event for the San Francisco Public Library organized by Michael Nava. In July, I presented a talk on “Place as Character” for MWA’s Florida chapter.

Now to have some fun . . .

Vanilla or chocolate
Chocolate is my default

Pizza or burgers
Lean toward burgers (but not too often)

Broccoli or squash
I love broccoli in stir fry, Chinese takeout, and raw with dips

Breakfast, lunch, or dinner
Breakfast. Because I’ve been known to eat dinner leftovers for breakfast.

Mountain or beach
Beach. Astrologically, I’m a water sign.

Introvert or Extrovert
On my Last Myers-Briggs I was smack-dab in the middle. But in my heart I’m an introvert.

And even more fun . . .

You are stranded on a deserted island. What are your three must-haves?
Electricity, a house, and a boat with gas. LOL
