Why do you write the genre that you write?
I write what I love to read. Cozies have been one of my favorite genres to read since elementary, so it seemed a natural choice to begin my writing career with one. I love the whodunit aspect of cozies. Characters and setting are important, but ultimately I like a good mystery with lots of twists and turns.

What’s the quirkiest quirk one of your characters has?
One of my side characters, Drew Fletcher, is a retired pharmacist turned hypochondriac. He’s forever self-diagnosing his minor ailments and concocting remedies and preventative treatments for his imagined problems.

Tell us how you got into writing?
I’ve wanted to write since I was thirteen, but it was a dormant dream for a long time. About 15 years ago I started reading books on writing and took a creative writing course at my local college. For several years I thought about it, but didn’t do much more. Then six years ago I actively started writing a novel, but I got thirty pages in and realized the idea wasn’t quite right. When covid began I sat down and reworked what I’d started with and several months later had the manuscript for what would become A Christmas Candy Killing.

What jobs have you held before, during and/or after you became a writer?
I spent a year in the military before marrying and starting a family. For a time I was a stay at home mom and for sixteen years I was a banker. I also briefly worked at our local library, part-time, until Covid. Since then I’ve been writing full-time.

Where do you write?
I am very fortunate to have two offices. One office is in my home where I write during the colder months. Several years ago I had a writing shed built for my backyard. I finished the interior and that is where I write in the warmer months. When I travel I find a quiet spot where I can write. I’m easily distracted, so coffee shops don’t work well for me.

What is your favorite deadline snack?
My primary writing snack is always chocolate. Preferably very dark chocolate.

Who is an author you admire?
This is a tough question because there are many authors I admire. Libby Klein has a wonderful ability to write humor. Ellie Alexander does a great job with setting. I admire both for how well they develop character.

What’s your favorite genre to read?
I love to read cozy mysteries and suspense.

What are you reading now?
I’m currently reading Death Of A Gigolo by Laura Levine. I love the humor in her books.

What is your favorite beverage to end the day?
Most of the year it’s a non-alcoholic beer. But November and December it’s a hot chocolate.

What is next for you?
I’m currently working on book three in the Killer Chocolate Mysteries, which is not under contract as yet. I’m also working on a new project that I would classify as suspense at this point.

Where can we find you?
My favorite place to hang out is Instagram, but you’ll also find me on Facebook, and occasionally Twitter. Christina Romeril Author is my handle on IG and FB. My website is christinaromeril.com.

My bio:
Christina Romeril grew up in Kitchener, Ontario and has been an avid reader since third grade. As an Alberta transplant she is fascinated by mountains and loves to spend time with her husband at Waterton Lakes National Park in the Rocky Mountains. When she’s not enjoying nature, she loves to create and consume chocolate confections. Not necessarily in that order.
