Why do you write the genre that you write?
Maddie Day and I (Edith Maxwell) write cozy and historical amateur sleuth mystery because that’s what I (we) like to read.
Tell us how you got into writing mysteries?
After writing non-fiction for a couple of decades, I had a small organic farm, two little boys newly both in school every morning, and a love of amateur-sleuth foody mysteries. Voila – the Local Foods Mysteries got their start.
What’s next for you?
A Changing Light, my seventh historical Quaker Midwife Mystery, came out in April to much acclaim. Maddie Day’s ninth and tenth Country Store Mysteries (No Grater Crime and Batter Off Dead) are both in production. I’m now writing Murder In A Cape Cottage, the fourth Cozy Capers Book Group Mystery, with a new Country Store Christmas novella to follow and then book eleven in the same series. I just might have a new historical project in the works, too, and I have several short out on submission.
What are you reading now?
I loved Bitterroot Lake by Alicia Beckman (aka Leslie Budewitz), and can’t wait to read Death By Equine from Annette Dashofy and The Hiding Place by Paula Munier.
Where can we find you?

Now to have some fun . . .
Vanilla or chocolate
Chocolate, the darker the better
Pizza or burgers
Pizza, preferably artisanal thin crust with caramelized onions, Kalamata olives, goat cheese, and fresh basil
Broccoli or squash
Broccoli, stir fried with garlic
Breakfast, lunch, or dinner
I love a delicious lunch in an outdoor café with a good friend and a nice bottle of wine.
Mountain or beach
Both, but beach wins out, especially at the start and end of the day when the sun isn’t strong.
Introvert or Extrovert
Lifelong extrovert but with increasing introvert tendencies!
And even more fun . . .
You are stranded on a deserted island. What are your three must-haves?
Beyond water, food, and shade? I suppose it’s too much to ask for a solar charger and a satellite phone, so: A thick blank notebook and two new good pens (they count as one thing. . .); photographs of my sons and my grand-goddaughter; and the biggest Swiss Army knife or multi-tool available. A giant bottle of bourbon would be nice, too.

As Maddie Day she pens the Country Store Mysteries and the Cozy Capers Book Group Mysteries. Maxwell is a member of Mystery Writers of America and a lifetime member of Sisters in Crime. She lives with her beau and energizer kitten north of Boston, where she writes, gardens, cooks, and wastes time on Facebook, and hopes you’ll find her at Edith M. Maxwell and Maddie Day.
Edith, you never cease to inspire – and intimidate a little! I can only dream of being as prolific as you. Congratulations on all your achievements!
Thank you, dear Ellen!
