Why do you write the genre that you write?
I love mysteries, especially historical ones. This is probably because I was raised on them—my dad and I watched a lot of old movies, detective shows and Masterpiece Mystery while I was growing up. So even if I wasn’t writing in the genre, it’s still what I would mostly be reading.

Tell us how you got into writing?
I started out as a reviewer of mysteries and crime fiction for places like Publisher’s Weekly and Mystery Scene Magazine. While doing that I attended a lot of conferences and was finally inspired by the amazing authors around me to try my own hand. I’d always wanted to write a book, but I’d never sat down and done it before.

What’s next for you?
I’m working up ideas for Jane’s next adventure, which would be book four actually. And I’m hoping to get started on some other writing projects as well.

What are you reading now?
I just finished reading Murder Most Fair, the latest in the Verity Kent series from Anna Lee Huber. It’s a fantastic series–I recommend you check it out.

Where can we find you?
I’m not on Twitter much, so the best place to find me is on my Facebook author page or on my website at ericaruthneubauer.com.

Now to have some fun . . .

Vanilla or chocolate –
Chocolate

Pizza or burgers –
Pizza! All day, every day.

Broccoli or squash –
I actually like both of these but if I had to choose I would pick
broccoli first, but only if it’s cooked. If it’s raw, then I’d say squash.

Breakfast, lunch, or dinner –
Breakfast. I love breakfast foods.

Mountain or beach –
This is a tough one. I love spending time on the beach, especially by the ocean,
but the mountains are also great. Hmm. I think the beach is going to win by a hair.

Introvert or Extrovert –
I’m definitely an introvert. I love to socialize but it wipes me out and then I need to hide and recharge.

And even more fun . . .

You are stranded on a deserted island. What are your three must-haves?
A device that I can read books on (and ideally keep somehow downloading new
ones), a solar charger to keep that device going and coffee. I require a lot of coffee.
