Why do you write the genre that you write?
I like writing cozy mysteries because of the whodunit aspect. I grew up on Encyclopedia Brown and progressed to Agatha Christie’s books, often reading alongside my mom. I also enjoy humorous mysteries because they make me laugh and bring joy when I need hope.

Tell us how you got into writing?
I used to have fun on my dad’s old typewriter, and he’d take my kiddie stories to work with him. In high school, I was involved in journalism, yearbook, the literary magazine, and a young poets’ organization. I put it aside during graduate studies and when I pursued professional geriatric social work but eventually returned back to writing.

What’s next for you?
November will be a busy month for me. I’m part of the wonderful Midnight Hour: A Chilling Anthology of Crime Fiction from 20 Authors of Color coming out on November 9th from Crooked Lane Books. The next in my Sassy Cat Mystery series, Mimi Lee Cracks the Code, will release on November 30th.

What are you reading now?
I recently finished Winter Counts by David Heska Wanbli Weiden, an amazing debut that brings to life Lakota culture and brims with suspense. On my TBR list: Dial A for Aunties by Jesse Q. Sutanto.
