Now it’s time to learn more about the authors we read. . .
What drew you to the genre you write?
Simply because it’s my favorite genre to read!
Tell us how you got into writing?
I’ve wanted to be a writer since I could hold a pencil and spent a lot of my childhood writing short stories. I didn’t start trying seriously to get published until I was in my thirties. It did not happen overnight. My first three manuscripts live in a desk drawer (and, in retrospect, they deserve to). But I kept trying and working on my craft, and my agent sold my fourth to Scholastic.
What jobs have you held before, during and/or after you became a writer?
My day job is in digital marketing. Making stuff up is much more fun.
How many books do you have published?
A Killer for Christmas is my debut adult mystery, but I’ve also published eleven books for middle grade and young adult readers.
Where do you write?
At home most of the time. I can’t do coffee shops and places like that because I start eavesdropping rather than writing. If I can’t write at home, the library is where it’s at.
What’s your favorite genre to read?
Mystery, followed by thrillers, and then romance. But I’ll also mix in some horror and other genres, too. I read A LOT.
What is something people would be surprised to know about you?
I had a rare, life-threatening disease at age 5 and spent a month in Boston Children’s Hospital, where they saved my life.
Who is an author you admire?
Barbara Mertz (Barbara Michaels/Elizabeth Peters). Her Barbara Michaels books supercharged my love for mysteries and thrillers in the ‘80s. She was not only an incredible writer, but also a feminist and champion for women in mystery.
Have you any advice for aspiring or beginning writers?
Don’t get stuck on one manuscript, reworking it over and over for years. If it’s not working, it’s not working. On to the next!
What is next for you?
My debut adult mystery, A Killer for Christmas, is releasing September 22, 2026 from Crooked Lane Books. I’m so excited about it. The book mixes cozy mystery with romance and humor, and it’s a lot of fun.
