Why do you write the genre that you write?
Crime fiction fascinated me early on, and I got my first copies of Agatha Christie books as a teen—detectives, amateur sleuths, cops and robber stories always hooked me way faster than anything else. Fast-forward four decades and hundreds of books later, and I decided to try my hand at writing my own, with a queer twist.
What’s the quirkiest quirk one of your characters has?
I don’t think I’ve written characters with obvious quirks yet, but, apparently (according to my cheeky hubby) I have a tendency to explain my reasoning for a decision ad nauseam when a simple ‘yes’ or ’no’ would not only have been sufficient, but preferred. 🙂
Tell us how you got into writing?
I dared myself after reading yet another fantastic book that I loved, but had no one like me in it. I wanted to write something that blended my favorite books and crime authors, both gay and straight, and hopefully created something unique.
What jobs have you held before, during and/or after you became a writer?
After high school, I trained for two years as a shop assistant, then became a flight attendant for Swissair. During that time, I discovered my passion for photography and began an exciting—but poorly paid—career in portraiture and erotic art. My work was published in reputable magazines and coffee table books around the world, but eventually, the need for food on the table turned me toward advertising and beauty photography. Today, most my work features interior design, architecture, and real estate.
Where do you write?
La Jefa, a cool coffee shop in Palm Springs, and in my beautiful midcentury-mod office that my hubby created for me.
What is your favorite deadline snack?
Greek yoghurt with granola. Swiss chocolate (if I’m bad).
Who is an author you admire?
There are quite a few, but Jordan Harper is my latest obsession.
What’s your favorite genre to read?
Crime: mostly mysteries, thrillers, noir, and, occasionally, true crime.
What are you reading now?
The Last King of California (Jordan Harper)
What is your favorite beverage to end the day?
Aperol or Limoncello Spritz (anything Vodka if I want to crank it up)
What is next for you?
A new short story in the new Saints&Sinners anthology (March 2023), and finishing two WIP’s: My first present-day noir novel, and a Thriller set in Puerto Vallarta.

Marco Carocari originally hails from Switzerland and lives in the Californian desert with his husband. His debut novel, Blackout, was nominated for a Lefty and won TheNYCBigBookAward and Independent Press Award for Best LGBTQ Novel, and the short story All In The Planning appears in Malice Domestic 16: Mystery Most Diabolical.
Marco, I’ll bet your flight attendant and photography careers give you plenty to draw on for your books. I’m right there with you on the Aperol Spritz. Limoncello is another favorite of mine. Have a limoncello spritz recipe to share? I’d love to try it.
