Why do you write the genre you do?
I write Cozy Mysteries because that’s what I like to read. Cozy Mysteries always have a happy ending, there’s no blood and guts, and they’re light easy reads.

What’s the quirkiest quirk one of your characters has?
Sarah in Wedding Bride And Doom has an unhealthy dislike for our sleuth, Kate.

Tell us how you got into writing.
I always wanted to be a writer. I got my first rejection letter for a poem my mom submitted to a women’s magazine on my behalf when I was six!

What jobs have you held before, during and after you became a writer?
I was a teacher before I became serious about writing. About nine years ago, I became a wedding planner. My Cozy Mystery series is about a wedding planner, so I have lots of fun stories to share.

How many books do you have published?
I have one book published.

Where do you write?
I write all over my house, and outside too. My favorite place to write, however, is in my laundry room, which I’ve converted into an office.

What is your favorite deadline snack?
Whole Foods dark chocolate.

Who is an author you admire?
I admire Susan Furlong, who is able to write both cozy mysteries and thrillers with ease.

What is your favorite genre to read?
My favorite genre to read is Cozy Mystery.

What are you reading now?
I am reading Christine Knapp’s ‘Modern Day Midwife Series.’

What is your favorite beverage to end the day?
My favorite beverage to end the day is a hot cup of peppermint tea.

What is next for you?
The second book in my ‘Wedding Planner Mystery Series’ “Save The Fate” will be released early September, 2024.

My bio:
Mary Karnes is a mother of four who raised her family through six corporate moves, but always dreamed of being an author. Once the kids were grown, she started a wedding planning company and decided to simultaneously chase her dream of being a traditionally published author. The ‘Wedding Planner Mystery Series’ was born, with her business providing much subject matter for her books. Wedding Bride And Doom debuted August 22,2023. Save The Fate will be published in September of 2024 and the third in the series will arrive August of 2025.

Karnes has a new thriller in the works that she’s very excited about. She resides in New England with her husband, Ken, and her mini-dachshund Lucky. Her door is a revolving one with her kids and grandkids visiting frequently.
