Now it’s time to learn more about the authors we read. . .

What drew you to the genre you write?
I began reading cozy mysteries after my first child was born. I needed something to read that I could pick up or put down at a moment’s notice and not get lost in a sweeping epic world with character names that I couldn’t pronounce. My fogged, exhausted brain just couldn’t handle it at the time! So my librarian husband introduced me to the cozy mystery genre, and I was absolutely hooked. Six years later, I’m still devouring series after series! I love the heart and the humor in these stories, and it was so fun to write one of my own!

Tell us how you got into writing?
I’ve been writing ever since I can remember, sharing snippets of stories with my family and friends. But it wasn’t until high school that I started taking my writing more seriously and decided that I wanted to be a published author. It was thanks to the One Year Adventure Novel curriculum by Clear Water Press that I first learned the craft of writing and how to create a good story, and from there, I attended writers conferences and read every craft book I could get my hands on.

What jobs have you held before, during and/or after you became a writer?
I’ve held quite a wide variety of jobs—from lifeguard to frozen yogurt server to financial aid counselor. But currently, I’m a freelance editor specializing in copyediting and proofreading for speculative fiction as well as a mama to two sweet boys and an author!

How many books do you have published?
BEATRICE OPHELIA IS FLICKERING OUT is my debut novel, releasing March 17, 2026! This is book one in the Lake Erie Mysteries, and I’m already working hard on writing book two!

Where do you write?
I have a tiny office at the back of my house that I usually squirrel away to write in. I keep several craft books on the bookshelf next to my desk in case I need to look anything up. Once a month, however, my husband watches our kiddos and I go to our local coffee shop to write for a few hours. It’s one of my favorite places to write as there is nothing quite like the smell of coffee and the snippets of conversation you can overhear!

What’s your favorite genre to read?
I’m one of those strange people that doesn’t really have a favorite genre. I prefer to read a wide variety of genres from cozy mystery to epic fantasy to rom-coms to historical mysteries!

What is something people would be surprised to know about you?
I live on a mini-farm with sheep and chickens and a dog and two cats! We moved out to the country two years ago and haven’t looked back since. There’s something so wonderful about being able to walk outside and hold a chicken or pet a sheep and hear the sounds of the neighbor’s cows in the field.

Who is an author you admire?
Korina Moss! Her Cheese Shop Mysteries are one of my all-time favorite cozy mystery series, and she’s also one of the kindest authors! Her newsletters are packed full of fun and such an enjoyable read, and her recipes—if you love cheese as much as I do, you must try them!

Have you any advice for aspiring or beginning writers?
Finish your first draft! That first draft is always the hardest to get through as it’s guaranteed to be rough as you figure out the plot and the characters, but remember, that’s what editing is for! Just because your first draft is hard to finish and feels like a disaster doesn’t mean you’re a bad writer. Think of it as you figuring things out so you can polish it to a shine later.

What is next for you?
I am currently working on book two in the Lake Erie Mysteries and hope to release it in early 2027!

What is your favorite movie?
I confess…I don’t watch movies hardly at all. I’m much more of a TV show girl! My current favorites are the 1970s Nancy Drew and Hardy Boys Mysteries; Moon Knight (still holding out hope for season 2!); Murder, She Wrote; and The Hardy Boys on Hulu (season 1 + 2. Not a fan of season 3).

You are stranded on a deserted island. What are your three must-haves?
My Bible, sharp cheddar cheese (I could live off this, I swear), and my pillow. I could sleep without a blanket, but I can’t sleep without my pillow!
