What drew you to the genre you write?
Bob and Shirley is my move into cozy crime. It’s inspired by a lifetime of English village life, pub lunches and an encyclopaedic knowledge of puddings.
How did you come up with your pseudonym?
Not really a pseudonym. I’m Susannah Quinn, so Suzy K Quinn is close enough!
Tell us how you got into writing?
My sister and I started writing after entering a competition together as children. I became a journalist, wrote for years, collected plenty of rejections, and finally had my first book published at 30.
What jobs have you held before, during and/or after you became a writer?
Oh my goodness, so many “pay the bills” jobs! Double glazing sales, waitressing, call centre insurance handler, copywriter, childminder… I could go on. Then journalist, and finally full-time novelist.
How many books do you have published?
28, I think. I keep losing count…
Where do you write?
In cafes, or walking round the woods dictating like a lunatic.
What’s your favorite genre to read?
Definitely cozy mystery, but I also love a celebrity biography.
What is something people would be surprised to know about you?
My identical twin, Cate Quinn, is also a bestselling crime author.
Who is an author you admire?
Sue Townsend, Deany Ray, Steve Higgs, Tony Lee, JoJo Moyes, Lisa Jewell and Richard Osman.
Have you any advice for aspiring or beginning writers?
Persist. I had years of rejections before my first book deal at 30.
What is next for you?
