Now it’s time to learn more about the authors we read. . .
Why do you write the genre that you write?
I’ve always loved to read mysteries, so it was a natural segue for me from writing romance, which is where I started off in 2003. I’d joined Romance Writers of America and Nancy Cohen (Bad Hair Day mysteries) was president of our local chapter.
What’s the quirkiest quirk one of your characters has?
In the Irish Castle series, Rayne McGrath, a bridalwear designer from Hollywood, can catalogue a person’s job and income from a glance. In the Scottish Shire series, Paislee Shaw hasn’t had sex since her son Brody was born, 12 years ago. In the Salem B and B series, Charlene Morris can see the ghost haunting her home.
How did you come up with your pseudonym?
I write as Traci Hall, Traci Wilton, and Ellie Brannigan. Traci Wilton began because I was co-writing with Patrice Wilton, though she is now retired. Ellie Brannigan is after my 95-year-old grandmother, Elsie Brannigan.
Tell us how you got into writing?
I’ve always had a very active imagination and loved to tell stories.
What jobs have you held before, during and/or after you became a writer?
It’s kinda funny that my jobs (outside of being a parent) have been a florist, a barista, and gift basket designer. I was unknowingly in training to be a cozy mystery writer as these are awesome amateur sleuth jobs.
Where do you write?
I have a desk in the living room of our apartment.
What is your favorite deadline snack?
Good & Plentys and pistachios with the shell.
Who is an author you admire?
There are so many, but Heather Graham is right at the top of the list. She is talented and generous.
What’s your favorite genre to read?
Historical fiction.
What are you reading now?
Jane and the Final Mystery by Stephanie Barron and I’m listening to Carlene O’Connor’s Some Of Us Are Looking. Great new series.
What is your favorite beverage to end the day?
Beringers white zin
What is next for you?
I am writing the second Irish Castle book out in May ’24, Haunting in an Irish Castle. Murder at a Scottish Castle will be out in January ’24, and Mrs. Morris and the Mermaid will be out in February ’24.

My bio:
From cozy mysteries to seaside romance, USA Today bestselling author Traci Hall writes stories that captivate her readers. As a hybrid author with over sixty published works, Ms. Hall has a favorite tale for everyone. Mystery lovers, check out her Scottish Shire series, set in the seaside town of Nairn, or the Salem B&B Mystery series, co-written as Traci Wilton. Her latest project is an Irish Castle cozy as Ellie Brannigan. Whether it’s her ever-popular By the Sea romances, an Appletree Cove sweet romance, or a fun who-done-it, Traci finds her inspiration in sunny South Florida, living right near the ocean.
