Sometimes the best way to know a person is by asking questions, where you can learn more about what makes them tick. Let’s see who we have today.
What is your name?
– – Zoe Chambers
How old are you?
– – I’m 36.
What is your profession?
– – I’m a paramedic with Monongahela County’s Emergency Medical Services in Pennsylvania, but I also work as a deputy coroner with the county.
Do you have a significant other?
– – Yes, I do. We aren’t married, but I think we’re headed in that direction.
What is his name?
– – Pete Adams.
What is his profession?
– – Pete’s the police chief for Vance Township.
Any children?
– – Unfortunately, no.
Cats, dogs or other pets?
– – Oh, yes. I have two orange tabby cats named Merlin and Jade and a horse named Windstar.
What town do you live in?
– – Currently, I’m living with Pete in his house in Dillard, a small village in Vance Township, but I now own a farm a few miles away.
Do you rent or own?
– – I own the farm, but the house. . .well, the house has issues, so until I can afford to fix it up, I’m mooching off Pete! My words, not his!
House or building complex?
– – A house.
What is your favorite spot in your house?
– – My favorite spot in “my” house is actually the barn! At Pete’s house, I like the kitchen because that’s where everyone gathers when friends stop by and when we host the Saturday night poker game.
Who is your best friend?
– – Rose Bassi. We grew up together and got into lots of trouble together. She’s currently living in New Mexico though. I miss her.
Amateur sleuth or professional?
– – Since I do work with the coroner’s office, I think of myself as a professional investigator. I have to admit, I was expecting it to be more like the TV shows than it really is.
Who do you work with when sleuthing?
– – Sometimes I work with Pete and sometimes I work with County Detective Wayne Baronick (which drives Pete nuts!)
Favorite meal?
– – A cheeseburger with cole slaw and French fries.
Favorite dessert?
– – Anything with chocolate. The more chocolate, the better.
Favorite hobby?
– – Horseback riding!
Favorite vacation spot?
– – I rarely get to go on vacation, but I’d like to go back to New Mexico to visit Rose. Preferably when there are no missing kids and no killers chasing me!
Favorite color?
– – Blue.
Favorite author?
– – I hate to admit it, but I never used to have time to read for fun. Recently, I was on medical leave for some torn ligaments in my knee and discovered a Pittsburgh-area author who writes these time-travel romances. Kinda like the Outlander series. Her name’s Gwyn Cready and her books have become my guilty pleasure.
Favorite sports team?
– – The Pittsburgh Steelers!
Movies or Broadway?
– – Movies, definitely.
Are you a morning or a night person?
– – I work the night shift on the ambulance, but I really love the early morning hours, especially when I can be in the barn with the horses as the sun rises.
In two to three sentences, what is a typical day in your life like?
– – I get up early and run over to my farm to feed the horses. Then I have until late afternoon to take care of odds and ends, unless the coroner enlists me to help with an autopsy. On days when I’m on duty, I have to be at the ambulance garage by 4:00 and the station becomes my home until the next morning. I guess the best thing about my life right now is there’s no such thing as a “typical” day!
You can read about Zoe in Uneasy Prey, the sixth book in the “Zoe Chambers” mystery series, coming March 27, 2018. The first book in the series is Circle of Influence.
On the way to the emergency room, an elderly woman regains consciousness long enough to inform paramedic Zoe Chambers that her fall down the basement steps was no accident. Before she can say more, she succumbs to her injuries, launching Zoe and Police Chief Pete Adams into the investigation of a burglary ring targeting the area’s vulnerable senior citizens.
Zoe – in spite of Pete’s objections – takes it upon herself to act as protection detail after the con men, disguised as water company employees, set their sights on Zoe’s beloved former landlady. It’s a decision that eventually puts Zoe in harm’s way.
With Zoe already recovering from one close call, Pete must race against time to stop the crime ring—and a dangerous killer—before they strike again.
