Hi, everyone. My name is Angel Sinclair, and I’m a self-described geek, gamer, loner and hacker. I’m also the youngest senior at Excalibur Academy for the Technologically Gifted and Talented in Washington, DC. I was pushed ahead a year because of my high IQ and considerable prowess behind the keyboard, making me an outcast even among my own peers. I’ve recently made a couple of friendsβ€”a huge development for me. We formed a group called the White Knights (white hat hackers) dedicated to helping people and solving mysteries the cyber way. Guess you could call us an updated version of Nancy Drew or Trixie Belden. We assisted the U.S. government bring down a foreign hacker, so now we’ve been invited to try out for a super-secret spy school to see if we can expand on our talents.

I’m pretty sure it’s not every day that a red-haired, freckled teenage girl is invited to become the next American version of James Bond. I’m still trying to wrap my head around that. But apparently there are people in high places that think I’m spy material. I wasn’t sure I had what it takes to be a secret agent, but I decided to give it a shot. I’ve always like to think outside the box anyway, and being a spy would certainly give me that opportunity.

Interestingly enough, there’s a chance I come by the spy talent genetically. My dad may, or may not have, been a spy at the National Security Agency or NSA. I’ve been looking for him all my life. A brilliant mathematician and cryptographer, he disappeared under mysterious circumstances when I was eighteen months old. Although my mom tells me I must put him in my past, it only makes me more determined to find out what happened to him. I don’t like thinking it, but maybe I’m being invited as a way to get to my father. If he’s even still aliveβ€”that is.

It’s a lot to sort through, but first I have to survive the tryouts for UTOPβ€”the Underage Training Operative Program. That’s going to be a big challenge for a geeky girl like me with the upper body strength of an infant. I’m pretty sure I’ll never be able to do a chin-up, pull-up or push-up, even if my life depended on it. I’ve never shot anyone with a poisoned umbrella, stirred a martini, or even driven a car. But at least I’ve got my smarts, my friends, and a few secret skills of my own, so it’s game on. Geek girls rule!

You can read more about Angel in Knight Moves, the 2nd book in Julie’s young adult β€œWhite Knights” humorous, spy/mystery series released November 28, 2018.

When U.S. intelligence agencies invite teen geek and ace hacker, Angel Sinclair, and her friends to try out for a highly competitive school for government operatives, will she wash out or step into a future she never expected?

My name is Angel Sinclair and I’m the youngest senior at a high school for technologically-gifted students. School bored me until my friends and I were unexpectedly tapped to try out for a top-secret spy academy. I’m not sure I have what it takes to be an operative for the U.S. government, but my friends and I are going to give it our best shot.

But first I have to go up against uber-skilled candidates who can do a thousand push-ups, kill a person with a fingernail file, and make handcuffs out of paper clips. My only defining skills are my mad hacking abilities and extreme awkwardness. I don’t know what kind of spy that would make me, but I’m not going down without a fight.

With my loyal friends by my side, we’re in a race to finish at the top of the class. Together we have the smarts. . .but we’ll have to battle our insecurities and work together or miss out on an adventure of a lifetime.
