A day in my life? Even I’m not sure what that looks like these days. You see, I’ve only been here in Wicklow, Alabama, for a short while.
I came to this small mountain town to bury my beloved Granny Zee and settle her estate, but Granny had other plans for me.
In order to inherit, I have to run Granny’s Blackbird Café for two months, which means I have to live in the town my mother ran away from twenty-five years ago when she was secretly pregnant with me. The town that’s always been forbidden territory.
Since I’ve been here, I’ve been incredibly busy at the café, where the townsfolk have flocked to catch a glimpse of me, Zee’s mysterious granddaughter that no one knew existed. I met an aunt I never knew I had and also an old family friend of my parents who makes the best blackberry sweet tea I’ve ever tasted. And then there’s the birders. In order to catch a glimpse of the rare blackbirds that live in the trees behind the café and hear their mystical midnight songs, birders from all over the country have set up camp on the café’s side lawn. It’s all been a little overwhelming, honestly.
And while I’m not planning on staying in Wicklow for very long, I hope to find a few answers now that I’m here. Like, was the crash that killed my father twenty-five years ago really an accident or something more sinister? What makes the blackbird pies sold here at the café so magical? Will I be able to forgive my paternal grandparents for what they did to my mother? Will I be able to stop my new neighbors from giving me zucchini loaves every time they drop by? And will I ever, I mean ever, get used to being called ma’am?
If you’re in the area, I do hope you’ll stop by the café for a slice of pie, a glass of sweet tea, and maybe a little taste of magic. . .

Heather Webber’s Midnight at the Blackbird Café is a captivating blend of magical realism, heartwarming romance, and small-town Southern charm.
Nestled in the mountain shadows of Alabama lies the little town of Wicklow. It is here that Anna Kate has returned to bury her beloved Granny Zee, owner of the Blackbird Café.
It was supposed to be a quick trip to close the café and settle her grandmother’s estate, but despite her best intentions to avoid forming ties or even getting to know her father’s side of the family, Anna Kate finds herself inexplicably drawn to the quirky Southern town her mother ran away from so many years ago, and the mysterious blackbird pie everybody can’t stop talking about.
As the truth about her past slowly becomes clear, Anna Kate will need to decide if this lone blackbird will finally be able to take her broken wings and fly.

I love an independent cafe here in town. I introduced this cafe to a friend who was very appreciative as she was unaware of this lovely place to relax. We meet there every month.
This past spring.
There are several really lovely cafes which I have gone to with family and when someone visits. One is my favorite as there is an outdoor area which is unique and perfect during the summer. I will be returning there this week with a cousin who is visiting.
I visited one this spring when we were on vacation in PA
We were in the Black Hills of S Dakota just a couple of weeks ago and enjoyed several cafes.
Can’t remember. Probably the last time we took a road trip, which has been awhile.
Last week for coffee, dessert and a good chat with friends.
I’m trying to remember when I last visited a cafe. It was probably when I needed a pick me up while visiting my daughter in the bay area.
I went to a lovely cafe in Helotes, Texas a couple of months ago and had some amazing waffles and coffee.
I think it was the cafe we visited near a state park in Hampton Cove near Huntsville, Alabama in the spring. I can’t remember the name of it. We enjoyed it.
Last week – delicious pastries and sandwiches.
Ten days ago, on Bailey Island, off the Maine coast – The Giant Stairs Cafe. It’s the kind of small cafe where all the locals go most mornings. They make a fine lobster eggs Benedict, and blueberry muffins you want to keep with you always.
we have a darling little cafe where I live. I try to visit it weekly to indulge in a dessert and of course a sweet tea
Sounds delightful and now I want the answers to those questions!!
Last summer a road trip with my first was highlighted by a stop at Honey’s Cafe in a tiny rural Illinois town. Not sure I could find it again. Sure had excellent food an blueberry pie with a pecan topping that was incredible!!
Thanks Heather and Dru Ann!
When visiting my Sister in Michigan, we go to a cafe for breakfast. The last time we were there was in May.
Does Starbucks count?
7 years ago in Ottawa, IL, before we moved here to TN. It was a combination tea room/cafe, and really cute with lots of teas and great sandwiches and desserts. So glad we’re here, but I do miss friends and food from IL.
Thanks for the chance to win. Put this book on my Amazon wish list and Goodreads last week. Looks great!!
