Hi there, it’s Cat Latimer. I just got off book tour for my Tori series – it’s a YA paranormal adventure set in a magic school where Tori not only has to deal with the fact she’s just become aware she’s a witch, but she also has to keep her chemistry grade up if she stands a chance of getting into even a good college. And then there’s the guys. . . Okay so this isn’t about Tori’s high school struggles, you want to know more about me, the author.

Or more likely, you want to know about the writers retreat I host in my home every month. It’s a great time. Think of it as a week long bed and breakfast where all your crazy writer friends are with you to give you support. Or you could just lock yourself in your room and write. We’ll make sure you have at least one meal. I should say Shauna will take care of your food needs. She’s my partner in the business and best friend. I couldn’t pull off the retreats without her.

Retreats include full access to Covington College’s library, a lecture from one of their English professors with a Q/A, a chat with a bookseller, and full access to a working author, me. In addition, you get 7 breakfasts, coffee and treats all day, and a dinner out at one of the local restaurants to chat about the retreat. And we have a lot of fun. Sometimes, there might be a murder in town that I have to solve, but that happens in all small Colorado towns, right?

Of course, there’s Seth, my high school sweetheart, and the town’s handyman. We’ve been through a lot as a couple, but he’s still here. And it feels like it’s getting more serious. I’m a little worried about what I’d say if he did pop the question. I mean, I’ve already failed at one marriage, but in all fairness, that one wasn’t my fault. Or even a failure. . .

But I’m getting ahead of myself. Schedule yourself into one of our sessions. We only accept four writers a month at this time, but if you have a group, we’d love to chat with you. And there’s always a Covington college student in the mix. Think of him or her as an intern, looking for all the writing wisdom you can impart.

Think about it. Signups are available through the end of 2020. Shauna just put this year’s schedule on the calendar in ink. That’s serious.

Hope to see you soon.

Cat (Catherine) Latimer

A Field Guide to Homicide is the sixth book in the “Cat Latimer” cozy mystery series, released January 28, 2020.

Cat Latimer and her writer’s retreat group go on a hiking trip—but a murderer has been lurking off the beaten path . . .

Cat’s sweetheart, Seth, is going all out on an outing into the local mountains—for the benefit of the writing group Cat’s hosting at her Colorado B&B. But when they try to identify some plant and animal life, they find death instead. The body belongs to a man with a gold claim a few miles away. Instead of striking it rich, he’s been struck down.

To his surprise, Seth recognizes the victim from his military days—and up to now believed he’d already died during his last tour of duty. Now Cat has to solve this mystery before the killer takes a hike . . .
