Hey there. My name’s Cat Latimer. You may know me as the author of the teenage witch out of water books (Tori’s a newcomer to the world of magic and high school.) Or you may know me as the newest business owner in Aspen Hills, Colorado. With my friend Shauna, I’ve just opened up my old Victorian house and am hosting writer’s retreats.
The first one is coming up and I’m so nervous. I thought I’d get people who were looking at publication or just wanted to write a book. Instead, I have one of the top thriller authors coming to the first retreat. I wasn’t expecting celebrities. I hope Tom Cook isn’t a diva. I’ve heard the higher on the author food chain, the bigger the ego. We’ll just have to see.
The Victorian is shaping up nicely now that my former high school sweetheart has been hired on to do our renovations. Seth Howard and I were voted most likely couple to marry and rule the world. Only, it didn’t happen that way. After college, I started teaching Freshman English at Covington, our local college. And Seth? Well, he did a stint in the military and I lost track of him after I married Michael.
Of course, that turned out disastrous. The only good thing I got out of the divorce was gone. I packed up, moved to California and restarted my life. Until I got the news that Michael had died and I was his only heir.
So now I’m on reinvention number two. My Uncle Pete, Aspen Hill’s police chief, is ecstatic I’m home. The Victorian house that I loved, Michael got in the divorce, but I got it in the will. It still feels like my ex and I run into old memories now and then, but I’m working on that.
I better go. I still have a word count to hit since my deadline is coming up fast and Shauna wants me to try out the muffins she’s serving during the first week. We decided to run the retreat like a bed and breakfast. That way we don’t have to provide all the meals, but instead, Shauna can bake treats and desserts for our guests.
Wish me luck. The only way I can keep up on the reconstruction loans is if the retreats are successful. I’m just hoping our trial run goes well. Having Tom Cook give us a good recommendation would be golden.
