First, the music director’s mistress cheats me out of a job then thieves steal my luggage and most of my money. This trip to Ireland’s been a disaster. At least the thieves didn’t get my violin.
I’m Gethsemane Brown, a classical musician. I used my violin to land a temporary gig as music director of the boys’ school in this village I’m stranded in. It’s a far cry from performing with a professional orchestra but any job’s better than no job. Right? It’ll pay the bills until I figure out how to get home. Plus, I may get the chance to impress a big deal music executive who’s one of the students’ uncle.
I also found a place to stay rent-free, a picture postcard-charming cottage perched on a cliff near a lighthouse. It belonged to the late Eamon McCarthy, famous composer and my idol. It’s fully furnished, too. All I have to do is keep it clean and keep away souvenir hunters. One small detail my new landlord neglected to mention—Eamon’s ghost haunts the place.
Almost everyone, me included, believes Eamon murdered his wife then committed suicide. He swears he didn’t. He claims he and his wife were both murdered. I’m one of the few people—maybe the only person—who can both see and hear him so he needs my help to prove his innocence. It’s the only way he can rest in peace.
I can’t refuse him. Did I mention he’s my idol? Besides, he’s incredibly charming when he’s not being snarky and I’m growing fond of him. But if he’s telling the truth and he and his wife were murdered their killer might still be living in this village and they might be willing to kill again to keep their secret safe. I hope this investigation doesn’t turn out to be my farewell performance.

Meet the author
A writer since childhood, I won my first (okay, so far, only) writing prize, a copy of Shel Silverstein’s Where the Sidewalk Ends, in the 6th grade. I continued writing through college but put literary endeavors on hold to finish medical school and Family Medicine residency training. My medical career established, I returned to writing fiction.
Raised in the southeast and schooled in the northeast, I migrated to the southwest after a three-year stint in Alaska reminded me how much I needed sunlight and warm weather. I completed Southern Methodist University’s Writer’s Path program in Dallas, Texas then moved to El Paso, Texas where I currently practice medicine. If pushed, I will admit Texas brisket is as good as Carolina pulled pork. I enjoy classical music, art, travel, embroidery, and a good ghost story.
