Hex on the ExHex On The Ex by Rochelle Staab is the third book in the “Mind for Murder” mystery series. Publisher: Berkley Prime Crime, May 2013

When her ex-husband encounters a mysterious death omen, psychologist Liz Cooper turns to occult professor Nick Garfield for help in solving an all-too-real murder.

At a Dodgers game to celebrate her father’s birthday, Liz is forced to watch her ex—star player, Jarret—on the pitcher’s mound. To make matters worse, her former best friend, Laycee, is in the stands as well. Having betrayed her trust by having an affair with Jarret, Laycee is the last person Liz wants to see.

But when the appearance of a white pigeon—an omen of death—sets the superstitious Jarret off balance, it’s a game changer both on and off the field. Because the next morning, Laycee is found dead in Jarret’s home—and Liz is on deck as the prime suspect.

What a fun time I had reading Hex on the Ex. Between the laughs and the mystery, it was hard to put this book down. Liz runs into an ex-friend who is later found dead in her ex-husband’s home. When she becomes a prime suspect, her friends and family rally around and looks for clues that that police are missing and what they find and put together kept me turning the page as quickly as I can because I wanted to know what happens next.

The author did a great job in creating a well-written and wonderfully crafted whodunit that entertained me from beginning to end. The mystery was good as it kept me in suspense and I love the mixture of the occult and how it played into the capture of the murderer. The appearances by her family are a hoot, especially her mother who was the standout in this novel. This is by far the best book in the delightfully charming series and I can’t wait to see what next adventures lies ahead for Liz and her friends.
