Hey. Jay Kirby here, AKA “significant other” in Sasha Silverman’s life. I’m a wood carver and also shave ice sculptures for hotels or festival events in between commissions. Sasha’s solved several murders in Silver Hollow over the past six months. Yeah, you heard right. Murders, plural. It’s beginning to feel like Cabot’s Cove around here, but Sasha dislikes when people call her a Jessica Fletcher or Nancy Drew. Sensitive subject.

Sasha manages the family business, the Silver Bear Shop & Factory. She’s one smart cookie – and a cookie fiend, a trait I share, although I prefer pizza. I’m hoping she’s finally free of her ex-husband, Flynn Hanson, a big-shot lawyer who loves attention – you should see his wacky TV commercials. He split from the other lawyers at the Legal Eagles firm here in town (they’re not upset, trust me), and relocated to Ann Arbor. Not far enough away, in my opinion. Now Hanson’s engaged, so fingers crossed his new honey won’t pull the plug. Especially since he cheated on Sasha during their brief marriage long ago. She got wise, and fast. Hanson’s like a pesky shadow, though. Always showing up to hog the spotlight.

I remember Sasha from a wood shop class in high school, before she dropped it for sewing class instead – too bad. Probably thought learning to sew would be handy, since her dad had plans back then for the teddy bear factory. I never asked Sasha out, too spooked by her smarts. We hooked up last fall after she hired me to carve a mama bear and cubs for the Silver Bear Shop’s mailbox. Saved her life when she ended up in big trouble, too. At Christmas, Sasha found herself up against another crazed killer. Managed to get herself out of the jam, though. Do I worry? Heck yes, but she’s got guts.

We have a lot in common – love dogs, watching old movies, reading books. I’m grateful that Sasha supports my art, too. My studio is behind her sister Maddie’s Silver Moon graphics design office. It’s tough making a living from commissions, but I do okay. Sasha and I are equals, with the same goals in life – family first. One day I’ll propose. I thought about it for the upcoming Valentine’s Day, but it didn’t work out. For one thing, no way was I gonna follow on the heels of Flynn Hanson’s engagement. That would be too weird. I’m a patient guy. I’ll choose a better time.

Especially since I’m stuck at an ice festival up north that whole weekend in February. Sasha called me after she and Maddie stumbled over another body at a wedding’s rehearsal dinner. The best man got stabbed with an ice pick. And the bride’s sister is the prime suspect, with blood on her dress. Seems whoever killed the guy knew exactly how to do it fast. Given the timing and the hotel’s private room setting, I’d say someone in the wedding party managed to pull off a heartless revenge.

Wedding Bear Blues is the fourth book in the “Teddy Bear” cozy mystery series, released December 29, 2020.

At the Silver Bear Shop and Factory, Sasha will be selling plenty of bride and groom teddy bears come springtime. But this Valentine’s Day weekend, she’d take any of those silent, stuffed couples over the real thing. Sasha and her sister Maddie are bridesmaids at Cissy Davidson’s upcoming wedding in Silver Hollow.

Cissy is fuming over the worst choice of best man—the jerk who broke her sister Debbie’s heart—and the groom-to-be won’t budge in his decision. At the rehearsal dinner you could cut the tension with a wedding cake knife.

That is, until best man Dylan is found dead, impaled with an ice pick. If anyone’s going to walk down the aisle, Sasha will first need to find the cold-hearted killer who iced the best man . . .
