Jennifer sits down for a question-and-answer session with dru’s book musings so that we can get to know her better.

What is your full name?
My name is Jennifer Marie Dawson.

How old are you?
I am twenty-nine-years old.

What is your profession?
I’m a mystery author and I’ve recently inherited a bookstore that I have absolutely no idea how to manage.

Do you have a significant other?
No boyfriend at the moment. I’m coming out of a really disastrous relationship and taking a break.

Do you have any children?
I don’t have any children and honestly, I’m not sure I want any. My mother says the right man will change my mind, but as far as I can tell, I have the maternal instinct of a guppy.

Do you have any siblings?
I’m an only child. My mother wanted more children, but my father died when I was six and stepfather Gary didn’t want any. Including me.

Are your parents nearby?
They live just outside of town. About a twenty minute drive away.

Who is your best friend?
My best friend is Brittany Dunlop. She adopted me in kindergarten and we’ve been inseparable ever since.

Do you have cats, dogs, or other pets?
I recently got a German shepherd puppy from a woman in Georgia who felt sorry for me. I named her Savannah, so I’d never forget how her mother saved my life.

What town do you live in?
Riddleton, South Carolina

What type of dwelling do you own or rent?
I rent an apartment right across the hall from Brittany in a small building in a small apartment complex. But I wouldn’t mind owning my own home someday.

What is your favorite spot in your home?
My favorite spot is the living room couch. It’s where I do my best thinking, and take my best naps.

What is your favorite meal and dessert?
My favorite meal is a bacon cheeseburger and fries topped off with a hot fudge brownie sundae.

Do you have any hobbies?
I’ve recently taken up running with a local group—the Riddleton Runners—but I’m not sure I’m into it enough to call it a hobby just yet.

What music do you listen to?
I love soft rock and oldies.

What is your favorite color?
My favorite color is blue. Any shade.

What is your favorite vacation spot?
My favorite vacation spot is Myrtle Beach, but I like to go in the off-season. Crowds really aren’t my thing.

Are you a morning or night person?
I’m not sure I’m either one. I get up at seven every day, but sometimes I stay up all night writing. It all depends on when my muse shows up.

What is your idea of a really fun time?
I love to just hang with Brittany, watching movies, drinking wine, and talking.

If you were to write a memoir, what would you call it?
The Most Boring Book in the World.

Amateur or professional sleuth and whom do you work with?
I’m a total amateur and a lone wolf, but I’ve recently learned that having friends around to help is a definite plus.

What is a typical day in your life like?
My typical day begins with coffee, coffee, and more coffee. I usually try to write for a while, then eventually give up and go to my bookstore, Ravenous Readers, to try to write some more. Savannah has insinuated herself into my daily routine in a big way, and I take her with me everywhere I go, including the Dandy Diner, where I eat most of my meals since my cooking skills would make a competitive eater retire. Evenings are spent watching movies, unless my muse has finally showed up so I can work on the second book in my series, which is six months overdue. My days are pretty mundane, except when I have a real-life mystery to work on. Then they become much more exciting.

I wrote murder mysteries. I didn’t investigate them. Until now…

Crime writer turned amateur sleuth, Jen, has taken over the running of the local bookstore in her hometown of Riddleton.

But balancing the books at Ravenous Readers is nothing compared to meeting the deadline for her new novel.

Dodging phone calls from her editor takes a back seat, however, when the local police chief is poisoned. To solve the murder, Jen must dust off her detective hat once more.

With everyone in town seemingly a suspect, and evidence planted to incriminate local police officer and close friend Eric, Jen is working against the clock. Can she find the killer and beat her own writer’s block before it’s too late?

Perfect for fans of Agatha Christie, Lauren Elliott and Ellery Adams, this is an absolutely gripping and addictive bookish cozy mystery that will have you turning the pages late into the night.
