Unholy MatrimonyYo, Lucille Mazzarella here. I’m trying this here new diet I read about. Now, my Frankie always says he likes me just the way I am, but I wouldn’t mind losing a couple of pounds if you know what I mean. I don’t know where they came from, but all of a sudden even the elastic waistbands on my pants are getting tight.

This here diet is going to be a breeze. I gotta watch my calories two days a week, and the rest of the time I can eat what I want. Which is good because I couldn’t give up all the things I love like stuffed shells with homemade ragu sauce, cannolis, a nice sandwich with some capicola from that deli on South Street, and pizza from Rosa and Sal’s.

So on my fasting days I’ll go real light. Like this morning. I had a small piece of coffee cake, the bacon Bernadette didn’t want, a couple bites of Frankie’s scrambled eggs, a few olives to finish off the jar and a cup of black coffee. Tonight for dinner I’m doing fish since it’s Friday. I know you don’t have to give up meat on Fridays no more, but I can’t help it, it’s tradition. Like going to church on Sunday and Sunday dinners with the family. Call me old-fashioned, but I don’t care.

My friend Flo is always after me to fix myself up more—get a new hairdo, get highlights, go for Botox. But like I said, my Frankie likes me the way I am and besides, he don’t like no surprises. But losing a few pounds won’t be too much of a change. I gotta tell you, I’m real excited about this new diet. This time I think it’s going to work.
