Lady Lucy Revelstoke sits down for a question-and-answer session with dru’s book musings so that we can learn more about her. Let’s get to know Lady Lucy.
What is your full name?
Lady Lucy Revelstoke (nee Hamilton…at least that’s what it says on my marriage certificate. Best not to mention the name of the criminal family I left behind in Canada.)
How old are you?
35. And sadly, a widow.
What is your profession?
Business woman. I own a shipping line left to me by my husband. Even in these modern times (1929) when women finally have the vote, most men would refuse to believe a woman could serve on a board of directors.
If you have a significant other, what is their name and profession?
Graham West is the Purser on the Victoriana Ocean Liner, part of the Empire Line. And an old friend from my Hamilton days. (My beloved husband Johnny died several years ago, as a result of being gassed in the Great War.)
Do you have any children?
Yes – a son, Charlie, who is nearly 15 and at school at Eton
Who is your best friend?
Elf! I met my maid and dearest friend when she rescued me from muggers in New York, in 1912. Luckily, she is a whiz at throwing knives. We’ve been inseparable ever since.
Do you have cats, dogs, or other pets?
Love dogs and cats! Have several at the castle.
What town do you live in?
Not a town – but a county. Wilshire, in West Country, England. Sheep country, with lots of land.
What type of dwelling do you own or rent?
I live in my late husband’s castle (it’s only a little one.) But I spend a lot of time with Elf on ships belonging to the Empire line, which I own.
Do you have any hobbies?
1. Beyond solving crimes? (Not only murder… Elf and I got our start saving a poor maid accused of theft, and later, stealing love letters back from a blackmailer. We only graduated to murder in the last year.)
2. I love to read. I’m a history buff, with a love for antiquities, plus a lover of mystery novels. Agatha Christie is my favourite author.
3. I also like to eat. (I come from an Italian family.)
If you were to write a memoir, what would you call it?
It’s Criminal! My Journey from Crime Family Darling, to Solving Murders.
Amateur or professional sleuth and whom do you work with?
I’m an amateur sleuth with a street-smart sidekick, Elf. We assist the ship’s Purser and security personnel, and discover things no crew member could hope to.

It’s the winter of 1929, and Lady Lucy Revelstoke and her pickpocket-turned-maid, Elf, are back in the third installment of The Merry Widow Murders ― this time voyaging to Egypt. Lucy is particularly interested in the ancient sites, and Elf ― well, Elf is keen to find out how the tomb raiders mastered their trade!
The voyage should be a treat, as two rival teams of archeologists will give lectures while on route to their digs. Old-school Doctor Phineas King and his daughter, Isla, make up one team, while the other’s led by flamboyant, privately funded American adventurer Anton Margolis. Both teams seek to discover a prized tomb, despite local whispers of a curse that befalls upon all those who dare to disturb the pharaoh’s grave.
Soon, an archeologist drops dead at a cocktail party. Is this the work of the pharaoh’s curse, or someone with a personal motive? As accusations of antiquity smuggling come to light and a distraught clairvoyant predicts more violence, Lucy and Elf race to find the fiendish murderer before they strike again.
