My name is Michael Grace Martin, and I’m just living every creative woman’s dream. I hold my own as the sole female comic book writer on my team at Genius Comics. I help write my childhood favorite comic series, The Hooded Falcon. On the side, I’m also a budding costume designer. I mostly design costumes for my best friend (and consummate drag queen) Lawrence’s revues, but this past month I won a fashion design competition at San Diego Comic Con. It was a highlight of my life, and has spurred me to go part-time at Genius and design costumes—hopefully for a living. When I’m not writing comics, or cheering on Lawrence’s on-stage persona Latifah, I’m either hanging out with my roommate Ryan, corgi Trogdor, or my sexy boyfriend Matteo. Whom, um, I kind of met when I accidentally solved a thirty year old murder and ran down a double agent earlier this summer. I suppose I kind of glossed over that part.
Here, let me start again. My name is MG Martin. By day, I’m a comic book writer, and by night I live them. Yes, indeed. . . I’ve been living a childhood dream by helping the LAPD chase down an *actual* bad guy. Or two, as it turns out. You see, Los Angeles is now home to its very own vigilante hero. A flesh and blood guy who is running around in capes and a mask, tying up drug dealers and leaving clues that reference The Hooded Falcon. That’s where I come in. The LAPD sought me out as an expert consultant, seeing as I write the The Hooded Falcon. It turns out the original creator of the comic book (and founder of the company I worked for) was actually writing about a real drug ring and turning it into fiction. . .and a real double agent. But before he could unmask the double agent, he was killed for what he discovered, and his death was framed as a heart attack. Fast forward thirty years, our local vigilante somehow discovered that the double agent was active again, and led us straight to his door. Lawrence (in full drag), Ryan, Matteo and I (in heels) all chased a masked figure through the Con. It was quite the spectacle, let me assure you. In the end, the double agent and his daughter (who had inherited his drug business, while also following in his footsteps as an officer of the law) were put behind bars thanks to our misfit team. And. . .the Golden Arrow.
So, now life has quieted down. Well. I mean, I guess there’s still a vigilante at large. And Lawrence’s sudden fame as drag-queen-turned-double-agent-tackler isn’t sitting well with his competition on stage, especially his nemesis Cleopatra Foxy. Who just casually dropped that she may *know* the identity of the Golden Arrow on a television interview. And one of Lawrence’s friends turned up dead from a drug overdose—the very same designer drug that the double agent was selling. It means we may have a bigger bad to catch. One who may or may not be targeting our little group of friends.
Okay, maybe life isn’t boring. I guess it’s basically chalk full of capes, costumes, kissing, and nerd jokes. I keep promising Matteo I’m done sleuthing on my own. It’s totally coincidence that Ryan, Lawrence and I are planning to gate crash Cleopatra’s fancy party to see if we can set eyes on the Golden Arrow. Just don’t tell Matteo, okay? He’s still the lead detective on the GA case, and the vigilante is a wanted person. I just have to know for myself who this masked vigilante is, and what his next move is going to be. . .
You can read more about MG in The Queen Con, the second book in the “Golden Arrow” mystery series, released July 9, 2019.
What’s a comic book writer’s life without a real-life archnemesis?
MG Martin thought she’d turned the last page on the dangerous Golden Arrow case. The bad guys are behind bars, and the rest is up to her detective boyfriend, Matteo Kildaire. But when Golden Arrow impersonators start popping up all over Los Angeles, the writer in MG can’t help but be intrigued. Are they impostors, or has the original Golden Arrow returned for another story arc?
A reemergence of drug crime has left the LAPD baffled, and golden arrows are once again being left at crime scenes. Matteo asks MG if she’ll resume consulting on all things geek, and she jumps at the opportunity. No need to mention that she may also do some sleuthing, with her friends’ help, right?
It’s rumored that the Golden Arrow will make a guest appearance at an exclusive queen party, and MG, Lawrence, and Ryan go undercover to sniff out the truth. But the sting goes sideways in a deadly way, and it’s up to their little crew to prove that the Golden Arrow might actually be the supervillain they’re chasing. Because looks can be deceiving, and every good writer knows the sequel is where the real plot twist happens. . .

What an interesting sounding book! A lot of people go to comic con, but this sounds much more exciting to me. I will check out this series! Thanks Dru Ann!
