Death of A Bad Apple by Penny Pike is the third book in the “Food Festival“ cozy mystery series, published by Obsidian, January 2016

Death of a Bad AppleAnxious to take a break from bustling San Francisco, Darcy and her Aunt Abby pack up the food truck and head for the apple festival at Apple Valley, California. Aunt Abby is sure her almond apple tarts will be a hit and Darcy wants to collect more recipes for her food truck cookbook.

But when a fellow guest at the Enchanted Apple Inn is pared-down—and the Inn’s owner ends up the prime suspect—Darcy must peel away the layers of the mystery. Because an apple a day certainly isn’t keeping the killer away.

I enjoyed this “apple-tizing” and delightfully entertaining story that was well-executed with a plot that begged to be read from beginning to the end. I liked the way the mystery was set-up and the author did a great job in presenting the details that included some surprising twists that enhanced the telling of this light drama. Character development played a strong role in my enjoyment of this book, especially Dillon’s assistance in helping Darcy figure out this murder mystery that took place outside of their homestead. This was an engaging and fun read that boasted good dialogue and a lovable cast. This is my favorite book in this charming series and I look forward to more adventures with Darcy, Jake and the gang.
