Lowcountry Boondoggle by Susan M. Boyer is the ninth book in the “Liz Talbot” private investigator mystery series. Publisher: Henery Press, June 30, 2020.

Private investigators Liz Talbot and Nate Andrews thought they’d put Darius Baker’s troubles to rest—then his recently discovered son ropes him into a hemp farm investment with his college buddies. When a beloved Charleston professor—and potential investor—is murdered, Liz and Nate discover Darius keeps the PIs on speed dial.

A shocking number of people had reasons to want the genteel, bowtie wearing, tea-drinking professor dead. Was it one of his many girlfriends or a disgruntled student? Or perhaps Murray was killed because his failure to invest meant the hemp farm trio’s dreams were going up in smoke?

Though Liz’s long-dead best friend, Colleen, warns her the stakes are far higher than Liz imagines, she is hellbent on finding the no-good killer among the bevy of suspects. But will the price of justice be more than Liz can bear?

Take a virtual vacation to Charleston in Susan M. Boyer’s latest Southern charmer, Lowcountry Boondoggle. It’s a trip you don’t want to miss.

Dru’s Musing:
This is another example of why this author deserves the accolades that is reaped upon her. This book, I could not put down as I had to know how things were going to end. There was so much going on that kept me on pins and needles. Who murdered the professor and why? And how does Colleen fit into what was going on?

In this well-written and fast-paced drama, the set-up, the staging, the players, and life all hang in the balance as Liz and Nate tackle an intriguing case with what they do best, ferreting out the clues and it’s how the author creatively laid out the scenarios that created a riveting tale that had me completely immersed in all that was happening. The visually descriptive narrative with engaging and witty dialogue added to the southern charm that is felt throughout. With humor and a few surprises, and one in particular gave me pause because I did not know what the aftereffects would be with the situation. Lowcountry Boondoggle is at its best when we are left to ponder the possibilities and as indicated by the author, there’s more yet to come. This is one of the best books in the series and I can’t wait to see those possibilities.
