Depending on who you ask, I’m Taylor Quinn the tragic orphan who graciously moved home to take care of her sister and grandfather after her mom died, or I’m Taylor Quinn, amateur detective, sticking her nose in police business.
I’d like to think I’m neither of those, to be honest! Who wants to be known for their losses and tragedies? And as for detective. . .I’m a business women running her family quilt shop. Any detecting I do is just because I have to.
That said, I am an orphan, though an almost thirty-year-old one, and I did move home to take care of my sister and my grandfather. Home is Comfort, Oregon a small town shadowed by the coast range mountains, in wine country. We’re a quilt town and my family shop, Flour Sax, was the first.
As far as a day in my life goes, I begin by filming my quilting how-to show for YouTube with my assistant Roxy. The shop opens at 11 so I get to play business person all morning, ordering, planning, plotting scheming, advertising, and more often than I’d like, solving murders. This side business of solving crime started with the death of my mom but hasn’t really let up since then. Who knew Comfort was so dangerous!
In the evenings, after a day spent cutting fabric, gossiping with friends, and uncovering clues, I go home to Grandpa Ernie. His dementia is getting worse these days, but I really don’t think I could live without him, especially with my sister Belle off in college. For now, my cousin is his day help, but what happens next is a constant worry in my life.
My other grandparents think I should move Grandpa Ernie to the local nursing home, but I’m just not ready. That said, Hudson (who I’ve been casually dating for a while now) and I are taking our grandpas to a tea party at the nursing home. First, how cute is that? Hudson and me and our grandfathers? Adorable. However, I’m not sure a tea party will be enough to convince me it’s time to kick Grandpa Ernie out of his house.
But it should be fun. . .so long as no one dies.
Cups and Killers is the third book in the “Taylor Quinn Quilt Shop” cozy mystery series, released April 1, 2020.
Everybody keeps saying it’s time to send Grandpa Ernie to an old folks home, but Taylor Quinn isn’t sure she agrees.
As Grandpa says, “Everyone who moves there dies.”
And since the latest death at Bible Creek Care Home was the chaplain who was stabbed in the back during the annual resident tea party, Taylor is beginning to believe her grandpa.
One of the waitstaff thinks she saw the murderer and turns to the only person she knows can help: Taylor Quinn, Comfort, Oregon’s favorite amateur detective.
While Taylor isn’t sure she’s the right one to solve every murder, she’s ready to help. After all, Comfort is a small town, and townies take care of each other.
