“A story isn’t a story if there isn’t a cat.” Elaine Faber

From the beginning of recorded time, cats have shared our lives, gained our trust, protected our harvests and warmed our beds.

Over the years, cats have been both revered and reviled. Currently, millions of American families are “owned” by a cat. Many videos on Facebook and You-Tube are about the behaviors, antics, and expressions of cats.

Many of my short stories include or feature feline characters. Any story with a cat, whether protagonist or secondary character must portray the characteristics and behaviors consistent with the cat’s true personality, even when fictionalizing or anthropomorphizing the cat, such as I’ve done in my cozy cat mysteries. With so many people enjoying cozy cat mysteries and stories about cats, I felt a book of short stories about cats would be well-received.

All Things Cat contains twenty-one of my short stories ranging from humorous to heartrending, featuring cats from diverse walks of life and varying periods of time.

Some are ‘first-person’ accounts, written by anonymous felines, abandoned by his master, as the prize in an Old West poker game, routing a burglar in a WWII meat market, overcoming self-doubts about his hunting/stalking abilities, and adopting the First Family in the White House. Likely, these feline authors had no intention of sharing their innermost thoughts with the world, but having found the documents, several are included in this grouping.

Other stories, inspired by a plethora of situations, news events, contest prompts, holidays, and the like, illustrate how cats affect, impact or enrich our lives through their contributions or companionship.

So, whether you are a cat writer, a reader who enjoys stories about cats or just a cat lover, my books are for you. All Things Cat is no exception.

You can read more stories in All Things Cat: Short Stories to Warm the Cat Lover’s Heart, available at Amazon in paperback and e-book.

All Things Cat is a selection of Elaine Faber’s short stories about cats. Their stories take place in both past and present in diverse surroundings: Salem, Massachusetts, a pirate ship off the coast of Maine, a haunted hotel in the Sierra Mountains, Roswell, New Mexico, and the oval office in Washington, D.C., to name but a few locations.

The felines interact with extraordinary and remarkable characters including witches, leprechauns, a sewer truck driver, a hen-pecked husband driven to plot murder, and animal characters present at the birth of the Christ Child.

Some stories are self-narrated by a cat sharing most unusual circumstances-abandoned by his master, as the prize in an Old West poker game, routing a burglar in a WWII meat market, overcoming self-doubts about his hunting/stalking abilities, and adopting the First Family in the White House.

All Things Cat will delight the reader and provide a sneak peek into the heart and mind of cats from all walks of life. Elaine has brought both wit and tenderness to this charming collection of short cat stories. Several stories are excerpts from Elaine’s full length cozy Black Cat mysteries and WWII novel, Mrs. Odboddy Hometown Patriot.
