I can tell you my name, but you won’t recognize it. I’m known as someone else, but I’m not going to tell you that name.

I’m on the run and telling you would not only put me in danger, but maybe you too.

I was stalked for years before a man took me and kept me in his van for three days. I don’t remember many of those terrifying moments, but they’re coming back. I escaped – flung myself out of that van. Thankfully, someone was there to help. A lifesaving brain surgery and an undercover departure from the hospital later, and here I am, running and hiding. Until they catch the man who took me, I can’t stay where I was. I can’t even mention where I lived, or the name you would know me by.

I’ve found a place in Alaska – it’s only accessible via a four-hour ferry ride or sea plane. My kidnapper shouldn’t be able to find me here. It’s primitive. There are only a couple of spots where cell phones and internet work. Everyone here has a secret or has run away from something. I think I’ve found the right place.

I discovered it when I snuck into my surgeon’s office in the hospital and used her internet. I quickly booked a room at an old inn that’s not supposed to rent out rooms anymore. It’s now a halfway house for felons from Anchorage. The woman who runs it sometimes lets paying visitors stay, even if she’s not supposed to. At least the felons aren’t violent and at least they’re all female. I just need something safe, and right now nothing else seems like a better option. I’ll figure it out.

This primitive world will either hide me well or swallow me whole.

My name is Beth Rivers and I’m on the run.

You can read more about Beth in Thin Ice, the first book in the NEW “Alaska Wild Mystery” series, released December 3, 2019.

Beth Rivers is on the run – she’s doing the only thing she could think of to keep herself safe. Known to the world as thriller author Elizabeth Fairchild, she had become the subject of a fanatic’s obsession. After being held in a van for three days by her kidnapper, Levi Brooks, Beth managed to escape, and until he is captured, she’s got to get away. Cold and remote, Alaska seems tailor-made for her to hideout.

Beth’s new home in Alaska is sparsely populated with people who all seem to be running or hiding from something, and though she accidentally booked a room at a halfway house, she feels safer than she’s felt since Levi took her. That is, until she’s told about a local death that’s a suspected murder. Could the death of Linda Rafferty have anything to do with her horror at the hands of Levi Brooks?

As Beth navigates her way through the wilds of her new home, her memories of her time in the van are coming back, replaying the terror and the fear—and threatening to keep her from healing, from reclaiming her old life again. Can she get back to normal, will she ever truly feel safe, and can she help solve the local mystery, if only so she doesn’t have to think about her own?
