Sometimes the best way to know a person is by asking questions, so let’s meet Carol.
What is your name?
Carol Andrews.
How old are you?
Over 50 and proud of it!
What is your profession?
In my “previous” life, I was a freelance writer for magazines and newspapers.
Do you have a significant other?
I’ve been married to my husband for over 35 years. I think that’s pretty significant!
What is his name and profession?
Jim Andrews. Since he retired, his main activity seems to be interfering with the day-to-day activities of our home and driving me crazy. Do you know anyone else who re-loads the dishwasher after his wife has already done it? Oh, and he’s a professional coupon-clipper.
Any children?
A daughter, Jenny, and a son, Mike. Jenny is married to Fairport Police Detective Mark Anderson and has just made me a grandmother! And Mike runs a very successful restaurant and bar on South Beach in Miami, Florida, called Cosmo’s. (Forgive me if I’m bragging.)
Do you have any sibling(s)?
No, I’m an only child.
Cats, dogs or other pets?
Two English cocker spaniels, Lucy and Ethel. They pretty much run the house when Jim’s not around.
What town do you live in?
Fairport, Connecticut
House or building complex? Own or Rent?
Own a house.
What is your favorite spot in your house?
I guess it’s the kitchen, even though I hate to cook. It seems to be the central spot for activity all the time.
Who is your best friend?
That’s a tough one, because I have three: Nancy, Claire and Mary Alice. We’ve been besties since grammar school. But I guess Nancy is my Very best friend, because she knows more of my secrets.
Amateur sleuth or professional?
Amateur, as of now.
Whom do you work with when sleuthing?
That depends on the situation. Usually my three best friends are involved, and sometimes my hairdresser, Deanna. And, believe it or not, my former high school English teacher, Sister Rose.
Favorite meal?
Anything I didn’t cook.
Favorite dessert?
Anything with chocolate.
Favorite hobby?
Retail therapy.
Favorite vacation spot?
Florida — I love it there, especially in the winter when Connecticut’s so cold.
Favorite color?
Blue, to match my eyes.
Favorite author?
My all-time favorite is Agatha Christie. But current authors I enjoy are Lois Winston, Barbara Ross, Lea Wait, Leslie Meier, Laurien Berenson, and Rhys Bowen.
Favorite sports team?
Red Sox!!
Movies or Broadway?
Broadway.
Are you a morning or a night person?
Neither. I think I’m a middle of the day person. I don’t like getting up before Jim’s made the coffee, and I try to get to bed by 11:00 at the latest.
In a few sentences, what is a typical day in your life like?
Since Jim retired, he gets up first and makes the coffee. We walk and feed the dogs, usually before we eat because Lucy, in particular, is pretty insistent on that. Later that morning, after I check my email, I usually spend some quality time with my darling grandson, CJ. (I did tell you that I’m a new grandmother, right?) Out to lunch with my friends, maybe a little retail therapy if Jim doesn’t catch me. All in all, I have a pretty pretty normal, boring life. Except for finding a dead body every so often since Jim retired. Then, all bets are off.

You can read about Carol in In-Laws Can Be Murder, the eighth book in the “Baby Boomer” mystery series. The first book in the series is Retirement Can Be Murder.
Carol Andrews doesn’t share well. Especially when it comes to her precious, long-awaited first grandchild, CJ. So when her son-in-law’s pushy mother, Margo, arrives in town and horns in on Carol’s happiness, it’s hate at first sight. But when Margo thinks she’s committed a murder and reaches out to Carol for help, then vanishes without a trace, it’s up to Carol to put aside her petty jealousy and crack the case before the police get involved.

I am ‘dying’ to win a copy of your new book! It would be a thriller kind of day if I do! Something to read in paradise. With Warm Aloha to all fellow mystery reader appreciators!
Sounds like this book has family drama along with the mystery. As a baby boomer I would probably enjoy it.

They sound like nice people, too bad murder interrupts Carol’s new grandmother status! Thanks for the chance to win!
Intriguing title! I can sympathize with the retired husband, nice to have him around but 24/7 can seem like a long time!
As a first grandchild arriving next week, there is a lot about this book that I can relate to. I would love to win a copy of this charming sounding book!
